Thank you all for your prayers and messages of sympathy

I am humbled by the compassion, and multitude of messages that I have received from people all over the world over Mike's death and my tribute to him. Thank you all, each and everyone, for your prayers and for allowing me to make Mike shine the way he deserved to shine. I want to also thank you all for allowing me to share such a personal experience publicly, and hope that it inspires all of you to stop and selflessly share a memorable moment with your loved ones before its too late.

Since the funeral yesterday, I have spent countless moments of silence staring into the distance with many thoughts racing through my head about what is important and what is not. His tragic death has severely disrupted the peaceful and affable atmosphere that emanated in my humble home.

When Mike was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (at Easter time) the only option was chemotherapy, it was too dangerous to operate and if this had been an option, the disease had spread too far for it to do any real help. I didn’t know then how much of an effect the chemo would have on him- it drowned him of all his energy making it very difficult for him to fight the disease head on. The man who I admired began to lose his fight and it wasn’t long before the disease took a real hold of him. The cancer had metastasized to his liver and it was hopeless.

Up until the very last minute you could see this "palikari" trying to fight it with all his power, but the disease consumed him.

Diseases like these are beyond human comprehension.

This is the only cancer that is fatal. Sure some medics say that with early detection we would have had some hope, but there were no guarantees. Unfortunately this is a disease that is not talked about. People do not know the symptoms and it is an illness that is not easily detected by doctors. Something needs to be done to educate and inform the public about pancreatic cancer so that people have a better chance of surviving and standing up to cancer in the future. Over the past few months HellasFrappe has published many stories about this type of cancer, and if you want to find out more then I suggest that you go to the health and well-being section and begin reading up on its symptoms.

I just wanted more time for him, and certainly for us. This past year was quite difficult and draining for everyone who loved him but we all agreed, we wanted more time. Some might characterize that as selfish, but I could see it in his eyes, he wanted the same thing.

As with other moments in my life, writing helped, and helps. Over the past few days sharing my feelings with all of you somewhat eased the pain and reading your messages gave me hope that the "filotimo" I always speak of, which is unique in our community, is alive and well. Obviously it does not heal the wound in my heart but it does honor Mike and our vision for a better tomorrow and right now that is all that matters to me. Mike needs to be honored and I feel compelled to tell the world about what a wonderful man he was.

I hope that by sharing this private moment in my life you are all able to take wisdom from it as well, as I said in my previous post I believe that God intended that this be a teachable moment for me.

Truth has become ever so clear to me especially with regard to what really matters in our lives, especially when we are brushed by death’s wing. That is why I want to encourage you all to go right now to the people you love and tell them that you love them. Don’t wait until you are home from work. Get on the phone, send an SMS, get in your car, board a ship, bus, train or whatever it takes and make sure you let the people that matter most to you know that you unconditionally love them. Your mothers, your fathers, your children, your friends, your dog, anyone or anything that matters most to you. Death is unpredictable. It could happen as soon as tomorrow. So do it today. Do it now.

That is all for now. Again, thanks for listening.

P.S. - As I said previously, your messages of compassion have touched me greatly but I will undoubtedly need your continued support. If you follow this blog, if you believe in the vision Mike and I shared about this blog, then stop for a moment and trust its core. I don't know how else to get this message across to all of you without fearing that it will once again be ignored. Make a donation, post the articles on your facebook walls, tweet our stories, put them in your facebook groups, forums, everywhere. Please help me continue this vision. Support it. HellasFrappe can be grand if it receives the support it rightfully deserves. Mike passed on, but this blog and our vision for a better world cannot die. Will you help me?

A Tribute To Mike

Usually I don’t like to share – and especially read – such personal confessions online, but I think God intends that my sudden experience was also a “teachable moment.” Today I lost the only thing that meant the most in the world to me; my lover, my best friend, my companion, my confident, my brother, my father, the other half of my soul and my very essence of being. Today I will not analyze Greece's political scene, the economic situation or the social mess this society is faced with everyday, but rather speak to you about someone whom you all might not know, but is the core or the foundation of this blog.

HellasFrappe might of been my dream, but it was inspired and supported by the only person that mattered most to me in this world: Mike. When I was not generating the traffic I wanted, and when the blog was only making 20 cents a day, Mike would first hug me, then boost my spirits by telling me that he believed in the cause behind HellasFrappe, that I should swallow my frustration and simply continue the fight. He would say that sooner or later people will realize how important this blog is, and they will willingly support it so that it continues to operate. Of course people didn't, but he never stopped telling me this. He also knew it was difficult for me to ask readers to help support it, because he secretly knew -deep inside that is- that most of the Omogeneia -and especially the Greek community- would ignore such a plea, because they are caught up in a world of arrogance, ignorance and especially greed. Who cares about a small time blog that wants to change the world, spread awareness about Greece and Greek life, why should I donate 2 dollars for this cause? Giving 200 to watch Anna Vissi is better. Mike knew all this... because he and I wanted to change this world but he continued to give me the strength to continue believing in our community. It is not the Greekness, or culture I had frustration with, it was the fact that I was pouring my heart out to everyone everyday, generating those reports, and it was not being supported willingly at all. How could I ask for support when it is not coming from the heart I would ask him, and he would tell me that sometimes people need a little push so that they can be reminded of what matters and what doesn't. .

You see Mike and I believed in a better world, a world where wealth was measured by character and not by some one's bank account and in some way we believed that we could motivate others by changing one mind at a time.

And in some ways, we did.

But life with its complications got the best of us. Micheal died this morning from pancreatic cancer at the ripe age of 38. The loss of my loved one has altered my entire life, simply because he was such an inspiration for me and mostly because he was my best friend. The sorrow I feel at the moment is uncontrollable and it cannot be placed into words. My home seems to echo from the silence, I see his image everywhere, and every time I reminded that I am now alone, I begin to weep. So many years together and the only thing I have now are memories.

When exiting the hospital this morning, after his death, I stood in the warmth of the sun and thought about all the couples who sit across from each other and insist there just isn’t enough time to spend with each other. Why not make time? I thought about the world we live in and felt disgusted with the society we have created for the children of tomorrow. There is too much focus on wealth and power and achievement, which creates the context for so much personal unhappiness, because all too often it makes us as a society miss out on what really matters in life, which is the personal welfare and the relationships of people. What a pitiful world this is. Mike was right, we have to change things. We have become increasingly isolated, as families and especially as individuals. Greed and want has taken over our lives, we do not look beyond our shoulder at the person in need behind us and ignore the people or the causes next to us. As I stared into the distance, all I felt grief yes, but I also realized how precious life is and how easily it can be unexpectedly cut short.

From very young I was a "flower power child" and someone who wanted to generate change, connecting myself later on in my adulthood with someone who wanted to do the same only enforced this. He enriched my very being and his vision, and our vision as a couple for a better world will not die. This I can control, and I must. I owe it to this wonderful  man, and to myself. We should all be so lucky to have enriched the lives of those close to us the way this man has mine.

In case you are wondering, I did not get to say an official “goodbye” to him, but I was fortunate enough to be by his side during his final moments. Three simple words, "I love you" were exchanged between us every day during his final days, and it was enough. I was also fortunate enough to kiss his hands when he took his last breath and thank him for giving me the best years of my life.

I have finally realized that having a good life is about the quality of the relationships we have had with the people who are closest to us on our journey.

I hope those of you who are reading this can become “happy with your portion” (of life) without necessarily losing a loved one in order to learn that lesson.

So there, this teachable moment is done.

As for HellasFrappe, and myself personally. Well, right now I feel shock and numbness. I feel alone, and am searching for a meaning to all of this. This is going to be a slow journey in the land of grief, and this might transpire in my work, my relationship with others, and my future choices, because I know mourning does not have a timetable. I have to now learn how to absorb this sudden and tragic loss, how to keep his memory alive and continue his work, how to find inspiration to continue wanting to change the world and especially how to cope on doing this all alone. This is a new journey, unexpected and it is not going to be easy. Be patient with me.

Thank-you for allowing me to share this with all of you, and again I apologize for this online confession

Greek Privatisation Chief Dismissed After Newspaper Exposes His Love For Holiday Jet Setting

Greece dismissed the chairman of its privatisation agency on Sunday after a newspaper exposed how he used the private plane of a businessman who had just bought a state company to go on holiday. According to a report on Reuters which was later published on capital, Stelios Stavridis is the second head of HRADF to leave in less than six months, reigniting controversy around Greece΄s ailing privatisation programme which is a central requirement of its international bailout.

Delays and privatisation receipt shortfalls are a constant headache for the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, which bankroll Greece΄s 240-billion-euro rescue.

The lenders said last month that they would review the way HRADF was operating, after it emerged that the agency would miss its 2013 revenue target by about 1 billion euros.
"Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras asked today for the resignation of HRADF chairman Stelios Stavridis," the Finance Ministry said in a brief statement.
A ministry official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters Stavridis was dismissed for "ethical reasons" after Proto Thema reported on Saturday that he travelled last week on the private plane of shipowner Dimitris Melissanidis, a major shareholder of a Czech-Greek consortium which in May agreed to buy a 33 percent stake in state gambling firm OPAP.

Stavridis took the flight immediately after the signing of an agreement to finalise the 652-million euro ($869 million) OPAP deal, Proto Thema said. The newspaper also published a photograph showing Stavridis in the plane, smiling next to a female flight attendant.

Stavridis said Melissanidis dropped him off at the Greek island of Cephalonia, which the shipowner would have passed anyway on his way to France.
"He was kind enough to get me from Athens to Cephalonia ... I have nothing to answer for about that," Stavridis told Vima FM radio, adding the outcry about his trip was "hypocritical".
Stavridis, a Swiss-trained engineer and outspoken economic liberal who founded Greece΄s biggest swimming pool company, was earning 2,940 euros ($3,900) a month as HRADF chief.

Greece΄s privatisation programme would not suffer from his resignation, said HRADF΄s chief executive Yannis Emiris, who is keeping his post.
"There will be absolutely no delays to the programme," Emiris said, rejecting any suggestion the OPAP deal might be reversed as a result of Stavridis΄s resignation.
The Finance Ministry official confirmed the OPAP deal would not be affected.

Stavridis΄s predecessor, Takis Athanasopoulos, stepped down after he was charged by a prosecutor with breach of duty over his former role as chairman of a state utility.

81 Illegal Migrants Suddenly Show Up On Chios

We keep on sending them home, and they keep on illegally crossing into Greece. Not 10, not 30, not 50 but 81 illegal immigrants were picked up by the Hellenic Coast Guard from different beaches on the island of Chios on Saturday, local reports said. The same reports noted that the immigrants were trapped in coves that were inaccessible by land and were rescued by the fire brigade and a Super Puma helicopter.

Strangely there was no information released about the nationality of the immigrants and certainly there was no information on how they got there, but a number of wrecked rubber dinghies were reportedely spotted off the island’s coast.

There were no reports of fatalities or injuries, nonetheless they were taken to a local hospital for checkups.

CYPRUS - An Unexpected Geopolitical Giant

(antifon) - Cyprus has quite a few things going in its favor. First, international law. Unless the UN member Republic of Cyprus decides to cancel itself, and why should it, that's all there is in as far as the law is concerned, a Cyprus spanning all corners of the island, legally speaking. Second, the same legal entity, legal as per the highest law of the earth, the UN charter, is also a member of the European Union, the greatest and most tightly knit intranational grouping since the end of WWII, and a member of EU-17, the hard European core that uses the same currency.

A EU that more and more develops into a federation, with constant alignment of the economic, trade, political and defense mechanisms of its member states. Yes, it will be a while before it can speak with one voice, but it is a reality that hardly anyone can ignore or diminish, save a few Turkish live political caricatures.

Lastly, Cyprus has an exclusive economic zone with hydrocarbon reserves, in one of the most geostrategic areas of the globe, that render it one of the most valuable members of the Union, both for its supply capacity as well as the independence it provides the Union away from monopolisitic and non-dependable supply routes that originate from Russia, Azerbaijan and the Middle East, and need to travel through a number of precarious, politically or militarily, spots before reaching Europe.

There are few in the west that would pursue a course of action that would force Cyprus to award undue leverage on Europe via an ethnic Turkish voice in Cypriot matters.

And the more "Turkey" is perceived as having an identity crisis, all the more leaning towards an Islamic version of democracy, an oxymoron really, the more the need for a stable, functioning European Republic of Cyprus, away from constitutional experiments whose purpose would be to serve either archaic British narrow interests, or "Turkey" 's outladish and hypocritical (just ask what language 20 million of its Kurds speak) demands or even Turkish Cypriots' naive, preposterous and self-centered interpretation of what is considered a fair solution for a circa 12% minority community within a unitary state!

If you do not see Cyprus as a giant today, then you are short-sighted, politically speaking.

Olympic-Aegean Merger Delayed Until Oct. 16

The European Union’s Competition Commission has put off the final decision regarding the proposed merger between Greece’s Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines until October 16, following additional concessions made by Aegean, according to a report in Kathimerini.

Meanwhile there are growing reports claiming that Turkish investors are interested in buying out the airline. After checking our sources, HellasFrappe could not prove this to be true. In fact the stories that are currently rumoring such an event are basically coming from Turkey and not Greece.

Conspiracy or Truth - M.Hastings Was Investigating CIA Director at Time of Deadly Crash

The widow of Michael Hastings confirmed that the investigative journalist was working on a story on CIA Director John Brennan when he was killed in a fiery car crash in June. In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan on August 5, Elise Jordan said that the story on Brennan will appear in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. The story apparently relates to Brennan’s role in targeting journalists who were working on government secrets.

By Matthew MacEgan
Global Research

In its report on Hasting’s investigations, San Diego 6 Newscited an email from obtained by WikiLeaks, which alleges that “Brennan is behind the witch hunts of investigative journalists” who reveal government secrets. It was an internal communication within Stratfor, a global intelligence company with connections to the US state, with a subject line stating that the message was for internal use only and should not be forwarded.

The email went on:
“There is a specific tasker from the [White House] to go after anyone printing materials negative to the Obama agenda (oh my). Even the FBI is shocked. The Wonder Boys must be in meltdown mode.”
Hastings died in the early hours of the morning on June 19, when his Mercedes exploded after apparently crashing into a palm tree in Hollywood, California. The vehicle burst into flames and the engine was launched 100 feet down the street. One witness compared the sound coming from the blast to a bomb explosion that shook nearby houses.

While initial eyewitness testimony indicated that Hastings had been speeding, new evidence is surfacing that questions such statements. According to the same San Diego 6 News report, a surveillance video taken from a nearby restaurant has been studied and shows that Hastings may have only been traveling as slowly as 35 mph when the collision took place.

According to San Diego 6 News:
“That revelation is important because Jose, an employee of ALSCO, a nearby business, and a witness to the accident, told KTLA/Loud Labs (Scott Lane) the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and he saw sparks coming from the car and saw it explode BEFORE hitting the tree.”
Hastings, who was 33-years-old when he died, had received threats from government officials in response to his work. In one of his books, he revealed that a staffer of General Stanley McCrystal, whose career was ended in part by an exposé written by Hastings, had told him, “We’ll hunt you down and kill you if we don’t like what you write.”

In response to recent attention to Hastings’ death, a CIA spokesperson told reporters that, “any suggestion that Director Brennan has ever attempted to infringe on Constitutionally-protected press freedoms is offensive and baseless.” However, the connection between the death of Hastings and the leaked CIA email raises serious questions about the death. Los Angeles Police Department officials have declared that there is no evidence of foul play.

Hastings was best known for his Rolling Stone exposé that led to the removal of McCrystal as chief of command in Afghanistan.

Following his death, friends of Hastings explained that the journalist had been in a particularly agitated state following the revelations of NSA spying by Edward Snowden in early June. Hastings was meeting with a WikiLeaks lawyer just hours before the crash.

Another San Diego 6 News report from July included an interview with Staff Sergeant Joe Biggs, a close friend of Hastings, who explained that journalist’s body was returned to family members in an urn, which was not in line with their wishes. The fact that his body was returned in this fashion raises even more suspicion regarding his death.

Biggs also released an email sent out by Hastings prior to his death with the following subject line: “FBI Investigation, re: NSA.”He suggested that his associates at BuzzFeed request legal counsel before speaking to “the Feds,” before adding, “I’m onto a big story and need to go off the rada[r] for a bit.”

Reportedly, Hastings, who frequently posted to social media web sites, made no such posts during the final week of his life.

In reference to this email, Biggs told reporters, “This wasn’t an accident, and I will continue to investigate his death.”

MYSTERY SOLVED - CIA Finally Declassifies Area 51

credit RT
The US government has admitted to the existence of a top-secret site in the Nevada desert, but the declassification will probably do little to calm ‘conspiracy theories’ over UFOs and other rumors involving the place.

George Washington University's National Security Archive obtained a CIA history of the U-2 spy plane, a high-altitude surveillance aircraft, through a freedom of information request, and released it Thursday.

National Security Archive senior fellow Jeffrey Richelson says he requested the information back in 2005 and received a version a few weeks ago.

According to the Archive’s website, the new information “is notable for the significant amount of newly declassified material with respect to the U-2 (spy plane project),” which provides the names of pilots, codenames and cryptonyms, as well as a map of the secret site where the jet was tested in the 1950s.

The story of Area 51 begins with the CIA searching for a reliable place to test the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft at a time when the military showdown between the United States and the Soviet Union was in high gear.

US pilots found what they were looking for at Groom Lake, a desert salt flat, on April 12, 1955, according to “The Central Intelligence Agency and Overhead Reconnaissance,” an internal CIA history of the U-2, written by Gregory W. Pedlow and Donald E. Welzenbach.
“President Eisenhower also approved the addition of this strip of wasteland, known by its map designation as Area 51, to the Nevada Test Site,” the authors wrote.
The U-2 spy plane flew at an altitude of 70,000 feet, which made some believe UFOs were buzzing Earth.
"High-altitude testing of the U-2 soon led to an unexpected side effect – a tremendous increase in reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs)," the report states.
Richelson says the new document shows the CIA is becoming less secretive about Area 51's existence, and the activities that took place there.
"It marks an end of official secrecy about the facts of Area 51," he told The Las Vegas Sun. "It opens up the possibility that future accounts of this and other aerial projects will be less redacted, more fully explained in terms of their presence in Area 51."
However, judging by the number of conspiracy theories involving Area 51, the release of the information may only serve to intensify rumors as to what else may have taken place on this lonely stretch of wasteland in the Nevada desert, which remains off-limits to this day.

Area 51 has come to be associated with a number of so-called urban legends, perhaps most famously the Roswell UFO incident that occurred on July 7, 1947 when an airborne object crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico.

The US government said the crash involved a military surveillance balloon, but other reports said the object was a spacecraft containing extraterrestrial life.

Ever since the 1970s, speculation has been rife as to what really crashed in Roswell.

State Registers Primary Budget Surplus for Jan.-July

Greece registered a primary budget surplus of 2.568 billion euros for the period between January and July, while lowering its deficit to 1.917 billion euros for the same period, exceeding targets set for both, the state news agency AMNA quoted Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras as saying earlier this week.

Specifically, the budget deficit for the same seven-month period in 2012 was 13.216 billion euros, while the target for this year was to restrict it to 7.528 billion euros.

At the same time in 2012, the budget had a primary deficit of 3.083 billion euros, and the target for this year was for 3.141 billion euros.

The improvement is attributed to a recovery in revenues during July, Staikouras said, and brings closer the possibility of having a primary budget surplus by the end of the year.

Net state budget revenues, he said, were 30.799 billion euros for January-July this year, an increase by 2.303 billion euros - or 8.1 percent - over the target set.

Net ordinary budget revenues amounted to 26.862 billion euros, or 746 million (2.9 percent) over the targets for the seven months. (AMNA)

TRAGEDY IN PELOPONNESE - Father Shoots Daughter Twice In Head (VIDEO)

A 47-year-old father from the town of Argos in the Peloponnese allegedly attempted to take the life of his 17-year-old daughter, shooting her twice in the head for reasons which are still unknown.

Quite shockingly, the tragedy unfolded shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Monday in the heart of Argos, when the 47-year-old father shot his daughter in public in Laiki Agora (Market) Square.

The 17-year-old girl was immediately rushed to the Argos hospital with two bullets in the head, and her condition was judged critical. Arrangements were quickly made for her transfer to a hospital in Athens.

Police later traced the father at his home, and was horrified to discover that he had turned the same gun on himself with a failed attempt to shoot himself in the abdomen. Both father and daughter have now been admitted to Nikaia General Hospital in Piraeus, and from what news reports claim they are both in critical condition.

Witnesses to this horrific tragedy told news sources that the father and daughter were eating together at a venue in Argos' central square when the daughter got up and went to a nearby kiosk to purchase some cigarettes. All of a sudden, and for unknown reasons, her father followed her and shot her with a gun which he illegally had in his possession, injuring her in the neck and head.

The All-Holy Virgin: Mary - The spiritual adornment of Orthodoxy

The Virgin Mary is the spiritual adornment of Orthodoxy. For us Greeks she is the pained mother, the comforter and the protector, who stands by us in every circumstance. In every part of Greece countless churches and monasteries are built, palaces of this humble queen, and a large number of small country-churches are scattered on the mountains, the plains and the islands, sweet-scented by the fragrance of her virginity and spirituality. Within each of these shrines, one finds the old and venerable icon with the dark and golden-waxed face, which is constantly wet from the tears of our tortured people, because we have no other to help us, except the All-Holy Virgin Mary, "for as sinners we have no other constant mediator before God in times of trouble and affliction as we bend beneath our multiple faults."

The beauty of Mary is not carnal, but spiritual, because where there is pain and holiness, there is only spiritual beauty. Carnal beauty brings carnal excitement, whereas spiritual beauty brings devotion, respect and pure love. This is the beauty that the All-Holy Virgin has. And this beauty is imprinted on her Greek icons which were made by pious people who were fasting, chanting and clad in broken-heartednesss and spiritual purity. It is this mystical beauty, depicted on the face of the Virgin, that draws like a magnet pious souls, quietening and comforting them. And this spiritual fragrance is the so-called Joyful Mourning (1), which is granted to us by the religion of Christ, an herb unknown to people who do not go near Him who is the good shepherd.

This joyful sorrow is depicted in every creation of Orthodox art, and sheds a fragrance like myrrh and aloe, whether this creation is an icon, or hymnody, or chanting, or manuscript, or vestments, or words, or actions, or blessings, or greetings, or monastery, or monastic cell, or carved wood, or embroidery, or candel, or lectern, or candelabra, or whatever is a vehicle for sanctification.

The Orthodox names of the All-Holy Virgin

From the names alone that Orthodoxy gave to the All-Holy Virgin, they  fully adorned Her person – not as a theatrical spectacle, as is done elsewhere, namely, depicting Her as a doll that was loaded with rings and earrings and a whole cluster of other profane and senseless things – from these alone, I say, it becomes obvious how truly spiritual is the veneration of the All-Holy Virgin in Greek Orthodoxy. First of all is Her holiest name: Panagia (All-Holy One). Then, the other names: the Superbly-Blessed, the Theotokos (God-bearer), the All-pure One,  More Honorable than the Cherubim and More Glorious than the Seraphim, the Living and Plentiful One, the Fountain, the Ensouled Ark, the Undefiled One, the Immaculate One, the Fully-Graced One, the Ever-Blessed and All-Blameless One, the Protection, the Listening One, the Speedily-Acting One, the Quick-Responding One, the Sanctified Temple, the Rational Paradise, the Unwithering Rose, the Golden Censer, the Golden Light, the Mana-Receiving Jar, the Heavenly Ladder, the Fervent Intercessor, the Unconquerable Fortress, the Source of Mercy, the World’s Shelter, the King’s Throne, the Gold-Claded Tower and Twelve-fold Walled City, the Sun-Illumined Throne, the Protective-Shelter of the World, the Fine-Fruit-Bearing Tree, the Good-Shading Tree of Rich Foliage, the Ray of the Spiritual Sun, Holy Zion, God's Habitation, the Heavenly Gate, the Patron of the aggrieved, the Staff of the Blind, the Joy of the Afflicted, and a thousand others, which are recorded in the books of the Church. Close to them are the names that hagiographers inscribe upon Her holy icons: the Guide, the Sweet-Kissing One, the One that is Wider than Heaven, the Hope of the hopeless, the Speedy Visitation, the Spotless One, the Hope of the Christians, the Consolation, the Merciful One, and many others, which are written under the abbreviation: ΜΡ ΘΥ, which means Mary Mother of God. How much love, how much reverence and how many tears of devotion these names alone reveal, which were not pronounced as easily as the words that exit from the mouth, but as names that were engraved in souls with pain and humility and faith.

The Orthodox hymns to the All-Holy Virgin

The same is the case with the hymns to the All-Holy Virgin, which are innumerable like the stars of heaven and are exquisite in beauty, and which were composed by saintly hymnographers who “constituted a spiritual chorus!” In this fragrant orchard are placed all the unfading flowers and sweet herbs of speech. Indeed, it was the All-Holy Virgin herself that prophesied of herself, when she went to the house of Zachariah and Elizabeth embraced Her, that all generations will call Her blessed: "In those days, Mary arose and went to the mountainous region in the region of Judah and entered the house of Zachariah and greeted Elizabeth. And as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary the child jumped inside her womb (2).

And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried with a loud voice and said: “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And from where did this good come to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? Because, as soon as the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the child jumped in my womb, and blessed is she who believed in what the Lord said of her (3).” And Mariam said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, because He condescended to look upon His humble servant. Henceforth, all generations will call me blessed, because the Mighty One has made great things in me, and sanctified is His name, and His mercy goes on from generation to generation to those who have the fear of Him.”

The Orthodox Icons of the All-Holy Virgin

Just as there are countless hymns of the Virgin Mary, so there are countless icons of Her in unobtrusive colors, which embellish our churches and are painted on plank or wall. In every Orthodox church there stands her icon on the iconostasis at the right side of the Holy Gate. In other icons she is painted as a nun, but in the icons of the iconostasis  she is always depicted holding Christ in her arms on her left side, but rarely on her right (then she is called Dexiokratousa=Right-holder). Her head is covered modestly and solemnly with a maphorion, a loosely fitting and priestly dress, of dark crimson color, falling on her shoulder in a spacious setting, leaving uncovered only her elongated face and her hands. Inside the cover is shown a narrow strip from the bonding of her head which tightens her forehead and allows only the edges of the ears to appear. Her forehead is like dark ivory, pure, simple and crystal clear. The eyebrows are arched, vibrant and long, reaching near her ears, her eyes almond-like, with shadowy, brown, deep, serious but luscious, as egg whites clean but shaded. Her look is melancholic, simple, direct, quiet, nice, dear, but sorrowful and joyous together, strict but also compassionate, most holy, spiritual, innocent, thoughtful, unblemished, hopeful, patient, meek, most unassuming, distant from all carnal consideration, a mystical mirroring of paradise, royal and humble, human and divine, harmless, brotherly, courteous, examining, alert, serene, philanthropist, motherly, maiden, cool, caustic for those who have evil thoughts, tender, piercing, searching, unpretentious, pedominant, condescending, supplicatory, unshakable. Her nose is long and narrow, moderate, Jewish, fleshless, with thin nostrils, slightly overturned, modest. Her mouth small, shy, prudent, closed, clean, shaded in the cheek, as if smiling slightly. Her chin is flared, respectable, unpretentious, humble. Her cheek, virginal, clean, soft, fragrant, shy, pale with very slight redness. Her neck, bent humbly, joins the chin with a gentle shade which was called sweetness by the older icon-painters. Her whole face is priestly and religious, and reveals an ancient tribe. Her immaculate hands are small, narrow with long fingers and thin nails. With the left hand she holds Christ, while her right hand is leaning modestly on her chest, in a supplicatory position, with the index finger away from the others. In more ancient icons this hand is more upright and higher, near the neck.

The most severe type of the All-Holy Virgin is the so called Odegetria=The Guide, which has her head erect, her expression more impassive and her whole posture more priestly. On the other hand the Glykofilousa=Sweet-kissing Virgin has her head reversely curved towards her Child, whom she embraces more tightly, and her expression is more emotional. The Platytera=Wider than the Heavens Virgin is depicted seated on the throne, rigorous and unbending, and holding Christ on her knees, leaning one of her hands on his shoulder and with the other holding his foot or a cloth.

The Orthodox Churches of the All-Holy Virgin

In Greece, most of the churches of the All-Holy Virgin hold their Feast on the Dormition of the Theotokos, i.e. on the 15th of August. The hymns chanted on this Feast are the most exquisite. The Doxastikon of Vespers is the only hymn that is chanted in the eight tones, each phrase has a different tone. It starts with the first tone and ends again with the first. But the whole of Greece praises the All-Holy Virgin not only with the chanters and the priests in the churches, but also with everything it has, with the villages, the mountains, the islands, which bear Her holy name. The boats sail in the cool sea, passing by the headlands where Her monasteries are built, having carved on their stern Her much loved and venerated name. Anyone sailing in Greek waters, in whatever place may find himself on the Feast Day of the All-Holy Virgin, will hear bells ringing from the sea. Some come from the Holy Mount Athos which is known as the Garden of the All-Holy Virgin, others from Tinos, where one of Her most famous palaces is located, others from Salamis where the Monastery of the Phaneromeni=The Revealed One keeps Her Feast, others from Mytilene, from the All-Holy Virgin of Agiassos and Petra, others from the Monastery of Siphnos, others from Skiathos, others from Naxos -  from every island, from every headland, from every dry land.

DEMETRIADES - Cyprus could have sought aid earlier to avoid pain

The head of Cyprus΄s central bank said on Tuesday the upheaval of an international bailout in March could have been avoided if the island nation had petitioned for aid earlier. Panicos Demetriades also chided bankers for accumulating large amounts of Greek government bonds, whose EU-approved restructuring in late 2011 proved to be deeply harmful for Cyprus, Reuters reported.

Cyprus took the unprecedented step of winding down a major bank and forcing losses on large depositors at a second bank to qualify for 10 billion euros in aid earlier this year.

The banks had been heavily exposed to Greek sovereign debt and suffered huge losses on holdings when that country΄s debt was restructured in another rescue package by the EU and IMF.

Demetriades, who took over the helm at the Cypriot central bank in May 2012, said Cyprus could have petitioned for aid just after Greece΄s debt write down was agreed by EU leaders in late 2011.
"If we had gone (for aid), possibly immediately after the Greek public sector involvement, we could have got better terms," Demetriades told a judicial inquiry in response to a question.
Demetriades, who also sits on the ECB΄s Governing Council, said a preliminary memorandum of understanding with lenders in late 2012 had earmarked a bailout amount which would have taken into account recapitalization needs of the two banks, Laiki and Bank of Cyprus. Instead, he said, there was a rapid deterioration with the banking sector bleeding deposits, and the sector came under sudden scrutiny on allegations of money laundering - a charge Cyprus has consistently denied.
"Nobody expected it, what happened was unprecedented, particularly with regard to deposits. Nor did we expect the assault against our banking sector from the media, in one country in particular," he said. Concerns about money laundering in its banking network first appeared in German media.
Demetriades said Cyprus had been experiencing the financial strain from its banking sector΄s exposure to Greece for some time, as well as a rapid expansion abroad and a "huge" investment in Greek government bonds.

NOoooo REALLY? - Turkish Terror Against the Greek Muslims In Thrace

The following article appeared in the HuffingtonPost recently. We here at HellasFrappe felt the need to republish it because it is a true-life account about the situation in Thrace. HellasFrappe has been sounding an alarm about the situation in Thrace and how the Turkish Consulate there has a suspicious influence over the people in this area. We have also spread overall awareness about the Turkification of the Pomak people and how they are struggling to keep their language and customs alive. Although this is a cheesy article, it is nonetheless and important eye-witness account about Turkish influence in this part of Greece. For more information on this issue simply look for the search box above the donation button on the side panel of the blog and type in Thrace, we guarantee you that you will get a plethora of stories that will blow your mind. Bravo to the HuffingtonPost for raising awareness of this issue to the world, and especially to North Americans who until today have been in the dark about what is really happening in this area.
In early July 2013, I traveled to  Thrace in northern Greece. This  is still the land of the gods.  Villages and towns try to make a  living out of a natural world of  rivers, valleys, wild mountains  and the sea. The Greeks of Thrace are proud  of their Hellenic culture. I witnessed three days of dancing and music  in Xanthi, the jewel town of Thrace. For a brief time I thought  god Dionysos was leading his  festival.

Forty-five dancing groups from all  over Greece made up of dozens  of young men and women  dressed in ancient traditional  costumes put up the greatest  show on Earth at the center of  Xanthi. Live music became  dancing, the air became  intoxicated with delightful sound  and graceful movement one sees  in ancient Greek vases. Ancient  Greeks came back to life, and I,  dreaming and dancing on the  spot, lived the pleasure of those  precious moments.

But Thrace is also full of pain.  The modernizers are catching up.  In my nine-hour bus ride from  Athens to Xanthi I saw plenty of  fertile land growing industrial  crops but not food for people. The  countryside is largely empty of  rural people. The dread that  comes over me in rural America  was in the back of my mind while  viewing the lonely land of Thrace.  The similarities spoke to me  directly.

In the midst of this agrarian  desolation and, even more  profoundly, on the harsh realities  of Greek economic collapse, the  Turks are rising their ugly  historical brutality towards  Greece. They see the weakness  and silence of the Greek state as  invitations to mischief. They are  emboldened with their ceaseless  aggression of coming back to  Thrace as conquerors.

The Turks may try to convince the  world they are not different than  other people. But, down at heart,  the Turks are different. They still  carry Islam's flag of conquest.

The fifteenth-century Greek  historian Michael Doukas  described them as gangster-like  nomads in search of loot and  plunder. The Turks also used  Islam as a weapon in their  ruthless aggression against  non-Muslims. Doukas said the  Turks were men of violence bend  on enslaving other people for  profit. He knew the Turks  intimately. He penned his  "Byzantine-Turkish History" while  the Turks fought ceaseless wars  against the Greeks. In 1453, the  Turks captured Constantinople  and brought the independence of  Greece to an end.

One can see this Turkish thirst for  plunder unfolding in the Greek  Muslim communities of Mt.  Rodopi, the frontier between  Greece and Bulgaria.

The Greeks of Rodopi date back  to ancient Greece. In medieval  Greece the Greeks of Rodopi  were converted to Christianity.  They remained Christians until  the seventeenth century when  Turkey forced them into Islam.

I visited Myki, one of the Greek  Muslim villages of Rodopi. Driving  from Xanthi, I was stunned by the  beauty and isolation of these  Greek mountain villages.

This bucolic view and pleasure is  marred by a slow-gathering storm,  however.

Many villagers are proud of being  Greek. They say, however, that  the agents of Turkey terrorize  them and those who refuse to  connect themselves to Turkey.  The pressure is so intense that  some women resort to  anti-depressant drugs.

This secret war pits one-third of  the Rodopi Muslim villagers who  say they are Greeks against the  two-thirds who claim openly they  are Turks.

Greece remains invisible in this  secret conflict that is writing the  future of Thrace. Greece is even  funding the teaching of Turkish to  the Rodopi children. Some say  that Greece even pressures the  Rodopi villagers to claim Turkish  origins.

I found no one who could explain  this contradiction, nay, suicidal  course of Greek policy.

Meanwhile, the handsome Greek  Muslims of Rodopi go on with  their daily lives. Most women and  children wear traditional colorful  clothing. Men work in their small  tobacco fields and shepherd  sheep and goats. Women in  particular create works of art in  their hand-made clothes.

Time has come to avoid the  eruption of a Greco-Turkish  volcano in the mountains of  Thrace. The Greek state needs to  be present in Rodopi: stop the  Turkification of the Greek Muslim  population by expelling the  bribing and terrorizing agents of  Turkey from Thrace.

Greece can hardly afford, much  less promote, her own  dismemberment.

Rodopi children need to learn  Greek early on so they can study  in Greece, thinking Greece as  their homeland, which it is.  Greece also needs to support the  institutionalization of the  knowledge of the villagers of  Rodopi. That knowledge and  tradition would be an asset in the  peaceful and prosperous  development of Thrace in a  prosperous Greece.

Conspiracy or Truth - Feds Desperate To Keep Power - Offering Billions of Fiat $$$ In Bribes

Despite a request that I not be contacted unless it was urgent,  phone calls from Asia and Europe and messages hand delivered to my remote cottage all indicate that some sort of fundamental change has taken place in the global power structure, says Ben Fulford in his weekly geopolitical column this week. He says that the Federal Reserve Board Crime syndicate has begun a massive attempt to buy historical Asian bonds offering billions to holders they previously told to buzz off, according to Asian and BIS sources.

This is an attempt on their part to keep  some sort of power after what  they now see as an inevitable sea change in how the planet’s financial system, and thus its true power, is run, according to MI5 sources in direct contact with the Fed bond buyers.

The Feds are now offering billions of dollars for historical bond  boxes they used to buy for a few hundred thousands of dollars if  they decided not to kill the would-be seller instead. This may  be tempting to the holders of these bonds but they need to  remember that at the end of the day the Feds will be lucky to  emerge from all this with their skins intact.

In any case, the White Dragon Society has suggested to bond  holders that there is no need to sell bonds with a face value of  trillions of dollars for a fraction of what they are worth. Instead, the WDS will meet with representatives of the Feds, of Asian Secret Societies, of the illuminati and the committee of 300 in the autumn to try to come up with a win-win solution for  everybody.

In the meantime, it is recommended that people enjoy the rest of their holidays and  charge their batteries for what is likely to be a historical fall in more than one sense.

The big geopolitical change that precipitated this sudden Fed  change of heart is the move by Putin, the gnostic illuminati and  their allies to force the US corporate government to close  embassies throughout the Middle East.

This has underlined, for all  to see, the biggest geopolitical sea change in the West since the fall of the Soviet Union. Western  Europe, which is deeply in debt to the rest of the world is now relying on Putin and his allies for energy. That means, in essence, Western Europe and the Middle East are no longer under cabal military control.

The Pentagon, says the author, although still in charge of by far the most potent military force on earth, no longer wishes to work for cabal oil interests in the Middle East. Instead, they are concentrating on successfully surfing the big switch in financial power to Asia and to anti-fascist forces in the West.

The background for this is that Asian royal families and other  interests are now looking like they will finally get justice after over 100 years of being lied to and manipulated by the families that own the Federal Reserve Board.

In specific financial terms, hundreds of trillions of dollars of  bonds issued by the Feds in exchange for Asian gold are likely  to be used in a move to bankrupt  the Federal Reserve Board.

The Neil Keenan lawsuit is part of this effort.

Rather than be declared bankrupt, the families behind the Feds are now trying to buy up as many of these bonds as possible  so that even if the Federal  Reserve Board goes belly up, they can claim to have trillions of  dollars’ worth of these bonds that  are suddenly morphing from historical antiques into sources of  major power.

A large portion of these bonds, several trillion dollars’ worth, have been pledged to the WDS banner.  In addition, gold holders and military forces are lining themselves up to WDS goals. These are to start a massive project to end poverty, stop  environmental destruction and set  humanity on a path of exponential expansion into the universe.

Compare this to cabal goals of a never ending fake, “war on terror” or a fraudulent global warming con job. The top leadership of the cabal was simply hoping to keep in power indefinitely by killing 5 billion people and enslaving the  rest. This is extremely well documented.

In such circumstances it is a good idea to step back and look at the big picture. Global GDP, including offshore financial centers, is less than $100 trillion. Suddenly dumping tens or hundreds of trillions of dollars into the world economy will cause vast changes of the sort anybody could see.

If the money is just handed out like free booze, there would be a  huge party followed by a huge hang over. At the end of the day,  the same old gangsters would still be in charge.

However, just putting a trillion dollars a year into development  projects would mean spending 20  times more than the World Bank, the cabal controlled world order’s  largest development institution. That alone would be enough to end poverty.

On a deeper level, we need to realize that current so-called  global institutions like the IMF, the  World Bank, the United Nations, the World Court etc. have been run, in secret, by the families behind the Federal Reserve Board. The 20th century was largely their creation. They  brought us two world wars, a cold war, terrorism, constant small wars and the accumulation of all of the world’s wealth and power into a tiny in-bred mafia clan.

During that same century they have failed to end extreme  poverty even as they presided over the extinction of 30% of all of the world’s species. That is the largest extinction event since the dinosaurs were wiped out.

What has happened, in a nutshell, is that the people who  control the world’s military power have decided that the people they worked for, the ones who controlled the magical Fed private bank money printing press, needed to be replaced.

The big delay so far has not been any love for the people in charge but rather disagreement over  what will happen next. Those disagreements are now ending. There are still no firm dates for when the big, visible changes will happen but they will happen.

There is still a lot that cannot be written about yet but rest assured  the good guys are winning and the fascist coup d’etat seen in the West after 911 has ended in failure.

Enjoy your summer  holidays.

ANALYSIS - Plato and the Myth of Er

Plato explains that in the Myth of  Er, Er gives an account of his  experience in the afterlife. This story correlates to a complex  argument about the relationship  between free will and determinism (fate).

Er describes two openings  in the earth side by side, and two  corresponding openings in the sky above. A set of judges directs those souls who are deemed  moral towards one of the  openings in the sky, and those deemed to be immoral towards  one of the openings in the earth.

From each remaining opening  emerge either souls caked in  grime and dust (from the earth) or  clean souls (from the sky). These souls are returning from a long  journey and meeting again in this  middle place of judgment.

Following this is a journey to another place in which each soul  (having emerged from either opening) is given a choice by  Lady Lachesis, daughter of Necessity and who represents the  past, as to what kind of life they wish to lead next. Every kind of  human and animal life is offered, including every possible  combination of wealth, poverty, sickness, health etc.

Er goes onto explain that those who came out of the heavens  demonstrated a general trend to not make careful and considered decisions and thereby more often  than not chose non-virtuous lives. It is important to note that this is proposed as a trend and not as a law of nature. The souls who hurry their decisions may just as likely make a good choice rather than a bad choice.

Here a difference between moral behavior based on habituation and moral behavior based on philosophy becomes distinct.

Those souls who emerged from  the earth had a deeper  understanding of suffering and so were able to cope with difficult decisions and situations. A soul is  therefore conditioned by experience. However, there is an eternal regress argument here as it is the moral or immoral actions undertaken in life that determine  the judgment passed on that soul  in the afterlife, determining that  souls experience in the afterlife  and there-by the conditioning and  influence over future choices.

Here we can see that human choices can at once be  conditioned and free.

The presence of a sequence of  metaphysical causes is  expressed as a cycle of reincarnation. This cycle is eternal and so plays the role of having a broad influence over life. It could be described as a set of constraints.

In this system, our actions are our own free choice, but the consequences of those actions fit into a causal framework. This is not a strong view of free will as it seems that any individuals actions may at  once be free, and also a fated reaction to the actions of another  (spurred into being via a cause).

What is possible in the future remains indefinite and the truth or  falsity of a possibility relies on the consequence of the inclination of our free will (which is why a representative of both necessity and the past presides over  choice). Therefore there are an infinite number of possible futures.

The emphasis on choice in spite of habitation and conditioning tells that people are responsible for their lives, albeit  this is a weak view of freewill.

In other words, man is susceptible to  conditioning, though through  philosophical rigor may take full  moral responsibility for the life he leads.

SYRIZA Once Again Defends Illegal Immigrants - Slams Police Force (VIDEO)

The main opposition SYRIZA party on Sunday called for the immediate launch of an inquiry into allegations of police brutality at Greece's main migrant holding centre in Amygdaleza, northeast of Athens, where some 1,200 mainly Afghan and Pakistani migrants are kept under police guard, following reports of riots and the intervention of special police forces to quell the chaos.
"Greek and foreign organisations for human rights but also, more recently, the mayor of Acharnes have reported that conditions of incarceration at the Amygdaleza concentration camp are inhuman and humiliating, a fact made worse by the high temperatures," the party noted, adding that the conditions and the extension of the period of detention to 18 months pushed inmates to despair and prompted the riot.
"This despair, as well as the riot, are the fruits of the inhuman policy of [Public Order and Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Dendias], who insists on the racist Xenios Dias and the implementation of detention even when their ineffectiveness is obvious even by the ministry's standards," the announcement added.
Obviously SYRIZA is in panic, because the only possible voting pool it has stems from these minorities. The left wing party however forgets that these detainees illegally entered Greece.

According to reports, during the riot detainees set fire to mattresses and their living quarters, and threw stones and other objects at riot police dispatched to subdue them.

Question: What was the police to do Mr. Tsipras, beg for more?

Police officials say that the unrest (suspiciously) broke out when the detainees were told that their maximum stay in the camp would be extended to 18 months from 12 months.

It is still not confirmed how many migrants were hurt in the incident.

On Sunday a police hunt for migrant escapees was under way in Athens after the riot left 10 officers injured, authorities said, but of course SYRIZA declined to speak about that and quite conveniently did not utter a word about the fires that they migrants set in the area destroying Greek public property.

Instead SYRIZA called for the immediate closure of all the detention camps and (ridiculously) noted that they should be replaced with open reception and hospitality centres.

BIO of Christina Onassis (VIDEO DOCUMENTARY)

Christina Onassis (Greek: Χριστίνα Ωνάση; December 11, 1950 -- November 19, 1988) was an American born Greek businesswoman and heiress to the Onassis fortune as the daughter of Aristotle Onassis and Athina Livanos. Initially one of two heirs, she inherited 55% of the Onassis fortune upon the unexpected death of her brother Alexander Onassis (the remaining 45% funded a foundation established in Alexander's memory, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis received $26 million). She is also the late mother of Athina Roussel.

Background

Born in New York City at LeRoy Sanitarium, Onassis grew up in France and Greece,

Onassis lost her entire immediate family within a period of 29 months. Her brother Alexander died in a plane crash in 1973, and her mother died of drug overdose in 1974.[citation needed] Her father's health had started to deteriorate after Alexander's death, and he died in 1975. After his death, she renounced U.S. citizenship and donated the American portion of her holdings in her father's company to the American Hospital of Paris. Alexander was the focus of her father's attention until his death; he considered her his successor and trained her in the business operations of the Onassis business empire. She became very involved in the business operations of the Onassis shipping empire and successfully ran the business after her father's death.

Marriages

Onassis was married four times; each marriage ended in divorce. Her first three husbands were southern California real estate developer Joseph Bolker (whom Christina's father pressured her to divorce), Alexandros Andreadis, and Sergei Kauzov. Her final marriage, to Thierry Roussel, produced her only child, daughter Athina Roussel.

Death

Christina Onassis died at the age of 37 at a country club near Buenos Aires, from a pulmonary edema that may have occurred as a side effect of diet or sleeping pills.

C'MON LADIES WAKE UP - Women Know Less About Politics Than Men Do

Women living in the world's most advanced democracies and under the most progressive gender equality regimes still know less about politics than men. Indeed, an unmistakable gender gap in political knowledge seems to be a global phenomenon, according to a ten-nation study of media systems and national political knowledge funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Women know less about politics than men regardless of how advanced a country is in terms of gender equality, says researcher Professor James Curran, Director of the Goldsmiths Leverhulme Media Research Centre at University of London.
"Our finding that the gap between men and women's knowledge of politics is greater in Norway – a country ranked globally as one of the very highest in terms of gender equality – than in South Korea – a country with a much lower equality rating – is particularly striking," Professor Curran points out.
The study also discovered that gender gaps in political knowledge tend to be even wider in so called 'advanced' economies such as the United Kingdom and United States than in less advanced economies such as Colombia.

Professor Curran says:
"The fact that throughout the whole world women know less about politics than men and that this is as true for people in Norway as it is in Colombia is really very surprising".
In this study, researchers surveyed men and women's knowledge of domestic and international news as well as current affairs in Australia, Canada, Colombia, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, the UK and the US. Exploring the reasons for the gender gap researchers examined both the content of news and the supply of news in all ten nations. Findings reveal:

News coverage is heavily weighted toward male sources even in countries such as the UK and Australia where gender equality ratings are relatively high. Overall, women are only interviewed or cited in 30 per cent of TV news stories in the ten nations.

In all ten countries, female sources tend only to appear in longer news items or articles and are preferred for soft news topics such as family, lifestyle and culture.
"Such under-representation and topical bias of women in news media may curb women's motivation to acquire political knowledge actively, and discourage them from political participation, and even prevent women from engaging in citizens in a democratic society," suggests co-researcher Professor Kaori Hayashi.
In terms of the supply of news, findings reveal that:

The more national populations watch TV news, particularly news provided by Public Service Broadcasters as opposed to commercial providers, the better informed on politics people tend to be

News watching/reading/listening is very much a male activity. In Canada, Norway and the UK, men claim to be exposed to TV and newspaper news significantly more than women.

These are also the countries where political knowledge gaps between men and women are especially large
"It seems that gaps in exposure to media are related to the gaps of knowledge between men and women," says Professor Hayashi.
The reasons why women watch less TV, read fewer newspapers and listen to less radio programmes in many countries than men could include the discouragingly male bias of much media content, less leisure time because of the greater unpaid work undertaken by women in the home and persistent social norms and expectations inherited from the past.
"Whatever the reasons, our research shows that globally in the 21st century those who are most likely to be knowledgeable about politics and current affairs are older men in advanced industrial nations," Professor Curran concludes.

Tripoli Highway Now Named "Mikis Theodorakis" Motorway

The Tripoli city council, Arcadia prefecture, Peloponnese decided to name a motorway of the city's new ring road after renowned Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis. The decision was taken after a proposal by mayor Yiannis Smyrniotis to honour the Greek composer who lived in Tripoli and Arcadia over a large part of his life and produced considerable music work during the period. The unveiling of the name of the city's new motorway is scheduled to take place on Monday in a unique event.

Use Greek Essential Oils - They Are Champions At Fighting Superbugs

Essential oils could be a cheap and effective alternative to antibiotics and potentially used to combat drug-resistant hospital superbugs, according to research presented by the Society for General Microbiology's spring meeting in Edinburgh.

Professor Yiannis Samaras and Dr Effimia Eriotou, from the Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands, in Greece, who led the research, tested the antimicrobial activity of eight plant essential oils. They found that thyme essential oil was the most effective and was able to almost completely eliminate bacteria within 60 minutes.

The essential oils of thyme and cinnamon were found to be particularly efficient antibacterial agents against a range of Staphylococcus species. Strains of these bacteria are common inhabitants of the skin and some may cause infection in immunocompromised individuals. Drug-resistant strains, such as meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are extremely difficult to treat. "Not only are essential oils a cheap and effective treatment option for antibiotic-resistant strains, but decreased use of antibiotics will help minimise the risk of new strains of antibiotic resistant micro-organisms emerging," said Professor Samaras.

Essential oils have been recognised for hundreds of years for their therapeutic properties, although very little is still known about how they exert their antimicrobial effects in humans. Australian aborigines used Tea tree oil to treat colds, sore throats, skin infections and insect bites and the remedy was sold commercially as a medicinal antiseptic from the early 20th century.

Various scientific studies have demonstrated that essential oils are not only well tolerated, but are effective against a range of bacterial and fungal species. Their therapeutic value has been shown for the treatment of a variety of conditions, including acne, dandruff, head lice and oral infections.

The Greek team believes essential oils could have diverse medical and industrial applications.
"The oils – or their active ingredients – could be easily incorporated into antimicrobial creams or gels for external application. In the food industry the impregnation of food packaging with essential oils has already been successfully trialled. They could also be included in food stuffs to replace synthetic chemicals that act as preservatives," they said.

OPINION - Why banksters laugh with the recent ECOFIN decision

Many people today, know about the case of Agglo-Irish bank’s higher executives, where two of them have been recorded talking about how they misled Irish government, by asking 7 billion euros bailout for a start, while they knew that this amount was not enough for the bank rescue. In these recordings that have been revealed by the Irish Independent (http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/inside-anglo-the-secret-recordings-29366837.html), banksters appear to hide the real damage of the collapsing bank, in order to drag government in a

repeated cycle of bailout packages, at the expense of taxpayers of course. The final bailout for the Agglo-Irish bank, reached the amount of 30 billion euros, nearly 22 per cent of Ireland’s GDP!

It is almost certain that, the banksters will laugh this time, with the European Economic and Financial Affairs Council’s (ECOFIN) decision, taken about a month ago, concerning the participation of shareholders and depositors in future possible damages of the banks, what they called “bail in”. And this because, in such deregulation conditions, banksters will have the opportunity, not only to get away without paying a cent, in a potential banking crisis, but on the contrary, to gain from such a situation according various possible scenarios.

For a start, the decision transforms the depositors into “investors against their will”, but with a major difference since they will not have any right on the investment options of any bank. Just think that, three decades ago, or earlier, the deposits in banks, enjoyed security and high interest rates. Through this decision, the depositors, not only left unprotected from golden boys’ choices, which are guided exclusively by their greed, but they will be considered equally responsible for these choices, and will participate in damages, without having the right to decide.

On the basis of a potential scenario, the key shareholders and depositors of special privileges, who will have the suitable access on “inside information” about an oncoming banking crisis, will have the opportunity to withdraw capitals and deposits on time, leaving the rest, therefore mostly, small depositors and independent shareholders, to pay the bill. After that, they will have the opportunity to “come back” – if they want and if the bank is still alive – under different investment fund formations, as saviors of the collapsing bank, obtaining again the basic control, and gaining from the whole situation since they will not have to contribute with their original capital in the required minimum fractional reserve.

This, of course, is just one of the many potential scenarios. Beyond this, the decision hits particularly the small commercial banks, which depend to a great extent on deposits, and thus, they become even easier victims for the big investment banks, which control the money flow in eurozone, and are mainly responsible for the last big economic crisis in the United States and Europe, according to the US Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission report.

The biggest insurance companies will also benefit from the decision since, in a potential “bail in”, those who will be called first for the bank rescue, besides shareholders, will be the uninsuranced creditors and the uninsuranced deposits of big companies.

Additionally, ECOFIN’s officials, didn’t bother to clarify, what will happen with the decision of the European leaders, about a year ago in the European summit, an initiative of the Italian ex-Prime Minister, Mario Monti, according to which, European banks will be re-capitalized straightly from the European support mechanisms, without the “annoying” inspection of each member-state separately, but in expense, of course, of the European taxpayers as a whole.

Thus, the pointless effort of the European authorities to put some rules in a system which has been deregulated by them, and which they continue to deregulate further, guided by the Greek crisis, for the benefit of the big capital, seems that makes banksters laugh again. But the rest of us, as we experiencing the tragic consequences of the crisis they created, unfortunately, we don’t have the … luxury to laugh.

Conspiracy or Truth - PROJECT ZEUS — What’s Going on In Greece? (VIDEO)

As part of Agenda 21, the cabal has launched what they call Project Zeus, which is a clampdown on freedom for the Greek people. Aristo gives an exceptional analysis. What he says is that all this is a false flag set up basically, by the NWO globalists.  He says that Greece is overrun with immigrants from the Middle East and Central Asia that the rest of Europe refuses to help assimilate, while he adds that they are also overrun by various mafias creating a lot of crime and terror. In addition, the Greek people are not even allowed self defense, which is apparently true throughout Europe. Artisto also notes that the elite, such as Henry Kissinger, hate Greece and its people because they have a long history of not being compliant. For those like the interviewer Ron who have been unaware of all this, what Aristo reveals will certainly be an eye opener. YouTube

The Rise Of The Russian Bear: 18 Signs That Moscow Is Making a Comeback

The Russian Bear is stronger and more powerful than it has ever been before.  Sadly, most of the international community does not understand this.  They still think of Russia as an "ex-superpower" that was rendered almost irrelevant when the Cold War ended. And yes, when the Cold War ended Russia was in rough shape. I got the chance to go over there in the early nineties, and at the time Russia was an economic disaster zone.  Russian currency was so worthless that I joked that I could go exchange a 20 dollar bill and buy the Kremlin.  But since that time Russia has roared back to life.

Once Vladimir Putin became president, the Russian economy started to grow very rapidly.  Today, Russia is an economic powerhouse that is blessed with an abundance of natural resources.  Their debt-to-GDP ratio is extremely small, they actually run a trade surplus every year, and they have the second most powerful military on the entire planet.  Anyone that underestimates Russia at this point is making a huge mistake.  The Russian Bear is back, and today it is a more formidable adversary than it ever was at any point during the Cold War.

Just check out the following statistics.  The following are 18 signs that Russia is rapidly catching up to the United States...

1. Russia produces more oil than anyone else on the planet.  The United States is in third place.

2. Russia is the number two oil exporter in the world.  The United States is forced to import more oil than anyone else in the world.

3. Russia produces more natural gas than anyone else on the planet.  The United States is in second place.

4. Today, Russia supplies 34 percent of Europe's natural gas needs.

5. The United States has a debt-to GDP-ratio of 101 percent.  Russia has a debt-to-GDP ratio of about 8 percent.

6. The United States had a trade deficit of more than half a trillion dollars last year.  Russia consistently runs a large trade surplus.

7. The United States has an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.  Russia has an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent.

8. Since Vladimir Putin first became president of Russia, the Russian economy has grown at a very rapid pace.  The following is from Wikipedia...
  • Under the presidency of Vladimir Putin Russia's economy saw the nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) double, climbing from 22nd to 11th largest in the world. The economy made real gains of an average 7% per year (1999: 6.5%, 2000: 10%, 2001: 5.7%, 2002: 4.9%, 2003: 7.3%, 2004: 7.2%, 2005: 6.4%, 2006: 8.2%, 2007: 8.5%, 2008: 5.2%), making it the 6th largest economy in the world in GDP(PPP). In 2007, Russia's GDP exceeded that of 1990, meaning it has overcome the devastating consequences of the recession in the 1990s.
  • During Putin's eight years in office, the industry grew by 75%, investments increased by 125%, and agricultural production and construction increased as well. Real incomes more than doubled and the average salary increased eightfold from $80 to $640. The volume of consumer credit between 2000–2006 increased 45 times, and during that same time period, the middle class grew from 8 million to 55 million, an increase of 7 times. The number of people living below the poverty line also decreased from 30% in 2000 to 14% in 2008.
9. According to Bloomberg, Russia has added 570 metric tons of gold to their reserves over the past decade.  In the United States, nobody seems to be quite sure how much gold the Federal Reserve actually has left.

10. Moscow is the second most expensive city in the world.  Meanwhile, the United States actually has the unfriendliest city in the world (Newark, New Jersey).

11. More billionaires live in Moscow than in any other city on the globe.

12. The Moscow metro system completely outclasses the subway systems in Washington D.C. and New York City.

13. The United States has the most powerful military on the planet, but Russia is in second place.

14. Russia has introduced a new "near silent" nuclear submarine which is far more quiet than anything the U.S. has...
  • The Borey Class submarine, dubbed Vladimir Monomakh, has a next generation nuclear reactor, can dive deeper than 1,200 feet, and carries up to 20 nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).
  • Each of these "Bulava" ICBM's can carry ten detachable MIRV warheads, what they call "re-entry vehicles," capable of delivering 150 kiloton yields per warhead
15. While Barack Obama is neutering the U.S. strategic nuclear arsenal, Vladimir Putin is working hard to modernize Russian nuclear forces.

16. Russian missile forces will hold more than 200 drills during the second half of 2013.

17. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin made headlines all over the world when he climbed into the cockpit of Russia’s new "fifth generation" fighter jet and announced that it was far superior to the F-22 Raptor.

18. It is estimated that Russia has more spies inside the United States today than it did at any point during the Cold War.

X-Files - The Incredible Story of the Miraculous Icon of Panagia Soumela

The Evangelist Luke painted several Icons of the Holy Mother of God. One of these is the Panagia Soumela. After Saint Luke was crucified at 84 years of age, he was buried in he town of Thebes (modern-day Thiva). Paanagia SoumelaHis relics were transferred to Constantinople in the mid-fourth century to the Church of the Holy Apostles. After he died his companion Ananias become the caretaker of the icon he painted of the holy Mother.

In the late 3rd or early 4th century the icon was placed in a church in Athens dedicated to the Mother of God.

Barnabas and Sophronios

During the reign of Theodosios (379-395) a priest in Athens had a vision where the Mother of God told him that he and his nephew, a deacon, should become monks. After they were tonsured as Barnaabas and Sophronios, they went to venerate the wonder-working icon that saint Luke had painted on the Mother of God in Athens. As they knelt in front of this icon the Mother of God again spoke to them and told them that they should follow her and go east to Mount Melas. At the same time, angels appeared, lifting the icon and carrying it off. It was never seen again in Athens.

These two monks wandered towards the east stopping at Mount Athos, Latmos, and Papikon and then to Ephesus where they took a ship to the Black Sea. This part of the world (Asia Minor – modern day Turkey) was the center of Christian spirituality. This was the age of Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Gregory the Theologian, and the Second Ecumenical Council. Christianity had just become a state religion. It was also when Saint John Chrysostom was delivering his sermons in Constantinople and Saint Marcarius was preparing young Augustine for his baptism in Africa.

Baranabas and Sophronios visited Trebizond and wandered the region in search of Mount Melas. Mount MelasFinally, at one of their stops they met a farmer who advised them that they had encamped at the foot of Mount Melas. That next day they followed the river towards the top of the mountain and slept near the top. In the morning they found a dry cave a bit closer to the summit. they entered to investigate and this miraculous icon appeared in front of them. It was sitting on a high ledge bathed in light.

Without any resources they established life on the side of the steep mountain. One day a donkey appeared laden with food and he also carried a letter from the nearby monastery of Vazelon. The abbot wrote that the Mother of God had appeared to him and asked them to send food.

Shortly, word of the monks and the miraculous icon spread and pilgrims began to come. Some stayed to become monks. By the time of the death of the founders in 412 the monastery was flourishing. It was favored by the Byzantine emperors and was the most prosperous monastery in the Pontos region.

The monastery was sacked and destroyed in the 7th century by “Hagarenes” (probably non-Christian raiding parties from the south or Cretan Arabs who were pirating as far north as Trebizond on the Black Sea). The monastery was restored in 644 by an illiterate farmer named Christopher. The Mother of God appeared to him and instructed him to go to the local bishop to be ordained and then to go and rebuild her monastery. Miraculously when he arrived the chapel had been swept clean and when he picked up the Gospel he found he could read. Shortly, the monastery again prospered.

In 1461 the Turks occupied Trebizond and Pontos. The monastery was not affected until early in the 16th century when Sultan Selim I discovered the monastery and was angered by its wealth and prosperity. He ordered it to be destroyed. But as soon as he made the order he fell from his horse with convulsions. He recanted his order and was restored to health. When he returned to Constantinople he issued an imperial firman granting the monastery all the privileges it had enjoyed under Byzantine rule during the Comnenus Dynasty. Other sultans followed suit and the monastery enjoyed prosperity in the 18th and 19th century under Turkish rule.

This all came to an end with the genoside and exchange of populations which took place in 1923 in which all the Orthodox of Asia Minor were exiled to Greece. This forced the abandonment of the monastery. The monasteries treasures, which included the cross, gospel, icon and relics, were buried to hide them. The were not touched until 1933 when the Turkish government gave permission for them to be unearthed and taken to Greece. The monk Ambrosios visited the ruined monastery of Soumela and retrieved the holy icon and the rest ofthe church valuables and brought them to Athens.

The icon of the Panagia Soumela was kept in the Benaki Museum in Athens until 1952. Pontians who had been exiled to Greece from Pontos obtained the funds to build a church in a small village in Kastinia between Kozani and Veria.

The icon is coveredby a silver rriza depicting the Prphets david, Moses, Isaiah and Aaron flanking the Mother and Child. Time has worn the icon until the faces are indistinguishable, although an outline of one of the Virgin’s eyes is still faintly visible.

Today the icon is still revered and a copy now is kept at the monastery in South Carolina, Paracletos Greek Orthodox Monastery.

The Turkish government is now restoring the Monastery of Soumela, about 40 kilometers south of Trebizond, not as an Orthodox monastery, but as an historical tourist site, with more Turkish feeling than the original architecture.

The icon of Panagia Soumela took its name from the Monastery of Soumela in Pontos of Asia Minor. The name “Soumela” comes from “Stou Mela”, i.e. “at the mount Melas” and consequently signifies a particular locality in Pontos.

A short excerpt on the Monastery of Soumela in an interview with a Pontian Greek Orthodox Christian by Road to Emmaus Journal refeeenced below

“RTE: In your account of the Black Sea crypto-Christians, you frequently mention the Monastery of Panagia Soumela, between Trabzon and Kromni. According to the Greek tradition of the founder-monks, Sts. Barnabas and Sophronius, Soumela is even older than St. Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai.

GEORGE: Yes, we had three of the oldest monasteries in the world near Trebizond. The Pontian tradition describes them as: “Vazelon, the most ancient,” dedicated to St. John the Forerunner and built in this remote spot in 270, at the height of Emperor Diocletian’s persecution of Christians; “Panagia Soumela, the most famous,” founded in 383; and “St. George Peristereota, the most beautiful,” established in the early sixth century. They were living monasteries throughout the Byzantine and Ottoman periods until they were evacuated in 1923 during the European-engineered Exchange of Populations, when the monks were forced to leave. The monasteries were left to be ruined by weather and vandals. Archbishop Chrysanthos Filippides of Athens and All-Greece, the Metropolitan of Trebizond who fed the Turkish women and children during the Russian occupation of 1916, later remarked, “Through the guilty complicity of the western Christian powers, a glorious Christian civilization in the East has been destroyed. The Church of Trebizond has been banished, and our inheritance has been transferred to strangers.”
