Supreme Court Takes Action Against Yianis (with one n) Varoufakis' Plan B - VIDEOS

After playing down the initiative as a contingency plan that had never been implemented, and after denying the report and claiming that the media was using it to discredit him, former Finance Minister Varoufakis finally admitted that he had made secret preparations to hack into Greek citizens' tax codes to create a parallel banking payment system. More exactly, Varoufakis admitted that he was developing a parallel banking system to turn the tax records of citizens from euro into drachmas with the touch of a button. In a conference call with the London-based OMFIF think-tank, which was recorded on July 16 but only released on Monday July 28th, Varoufakis outlines his secret plan to a bunch of hedge fund investors and says that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had given him the go ahead to devise this plan (named "Plan B") before gaining government on January 25th. (The scandal was exposed by the Kathimerini newspaper on Sunday.)

In the recording, which was released on Monday and which is causing a storm of reactions, we can actually hear Varoufakis clearly saying that he had assembled a five-person team led by U.S. economist James Galbraith to do just that.

     "We were planning to create, surreptitiously, reserve accounts attached to every tax file number, without telling anyone, just to have this system in a function under wraps," he said, adding that "of course this would be euro-denominated but at the drop of a hat it could be converted to a new drachma."

At some point in the recording, the moderator warns Varoufakis that other people were listening to the teleconference but would not repeat its contents and Varoufakis replied: "I know they are. And even if they do I will deny I said it."

(By far this is the worse statement of all, because it shows how politicians demonize the press at times for daring to expose the truth).

The plan, according to the recording, was to hack into his own ministry's software to copy tax systems code. In order to achieve this, Varoufakis said that he hired a childhood friend who was a software expert to help with the planning.

(Please note that his childhood friend was from Columbia University. This is an important factor as will be explained below.)

After denying the reports at first, and then playing the role of a media victim, Varoufakis was finally forced to admit the truth after the recording came to light. In a statement that was posted on his blog, Varoufakis defends the contingency planning and slams the domestic and foreign media for indulging in "far-fetched articles that damage the quality of public debate".

     "Greece's Ministry of Finance would have been remiss had it made no attempt to draw up contingency plans," the statement said, adding the unit worked within government policy and its recommendations were aimed at keeping the country in the euro zone.

Meanwhile, and in a separate statement posted on Varoufakis' blog, Galbraith notes that he had (unofficially) worked on the top secret plan on the basis that the government was committed to negotiating within the euro zone. Apart from coming into contact with SYRIZA MP (and drachma lobbiest) Costas Lapavitsas Galbraith said in his post that his secret group had no cooperation with the radical Left Platform of SYRIZA and concluded its work in May.

And if that wasn't enough, on Tuesday Varoufakis told the Financial Times in an interview that as he was handing over the reins of the finance ministry to SYRIZA MP Euclid Tsakalotos on July 6, he presented him with a full account of the ministry’s projects, priorities and achievements during his five months in office. According to him, the Plan B payments system was also apparently part of this presentation but luckily no member of the press took any notice.

(He actually says this to the Financial Times!!!)

     "But when a subsequent telephone discussion with a large number of international investors, organised by my friend Norman Lamont and David Marsh of the official monetary and financial institutions forum, was leaked despite the Chatham House rule that we agreed with listeners, the press had a field day. Committed to unlimited openness and full transparency, I granted OMFIF permission to release the tapes.
     "While I understand the press’s excitement emanating from elements of that exchange, such as having to consider unorthodox means of gaining access to my own ministry’s systems, there is only one matter of significance from a public interest perspective. There is a hideous restriction of national sovereignty imposed by the troika of lenders upon Greek ministers who are denied access to departments of their ministries pivotal in implementing innovative policies. When sovereignty loss, due to unsustainable official debt, yields suboptimal policies in already stressed nations, one knows that there is something rotten in the euro’s kingdom." Financial Times

The confession has provoked a storm of reactions. On Monday, at least 24 members of the main opposition New Democracy party sent a formal request to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to clarify whether he was aware of the plan to introduce Greece to a new national currency. if he had approved it and to also specify the actions he would take with regard to the political and criminal investigation of the case.

In a separate statement, the main opposition New Democracy party claims that specific elements within the ruling SYRIZA party had a hidden agenda for Grexit and used various “methods" that are dangerous to Greece's democracy and its national interests. At the same time ND called on the Greek Prime Minister and his younger coalition partner Panos Kammenos (leader of ANEL) to break their silence and finally come clean with “convincing and responsible explanations”.

On its part, the Potami party party called on Tsipras to confirm whether or not he was aware of Varoufakis’s plan since it was revealed on the recording that the plan was drawn up after consultations with the PM himself.

Without a doubt all this evidence has severely damaged the image of the SYRIZA party. Varoufakis' own admission that there were plans to “hack” into Greek taxpayers personal tax codes has sent Greece's political, financial and social world abuzz.

The news has also captured the attention of the the Greek justice system. A meeting that was convened by Chief Prosecutor of Greece Euterpe Koutzamani including leading senior magistrates and prosecutors, decided that the Supreme Court should turn to parliament to prosecute Yanis (with one "n"). As such the Supreme Court would turn to the Greek National Assembly for this very reason.

According to legal circles, Greek justice cannot automatically start formal proceedings against the former finance minister as this is not allowed under the provisions of the law on ministerial responsibility.

(In accordance with the law on the criminal responsibility of Greek MPs, parliament must first decide whether or not to conduct a preliminary investigation and withdraw the  immunity of the MP accused before the Supreme Court can begin prosecuting the case.)

Meanwhile, General Secretary for Public Revenues Katerina Savvaidou responded with an order for an urgent internal inquiry to be held under oath so as to investigate whether staff at the secretariat had committed illegal acts. According to an announcement, there will be an internal check of all IT systems to try and uncover whether any unauthorized accessing of data occurred.

And if that wasn't enough, there are also two lawsuits for treason which have already been filed against Yanis (with one "n") Varoufakis. The first by the non-parliamentary Telia party, former actor and mayor of Stilida Apostolos Gletsos and the second by Athenian lawyer Mr. Giannopoulos.

Regardless what decision parliament adopts, the Supreme Court will still go after all (non-political) persons involved in the drafting and implementation of this plan. As such expect to see action against Michalis Chatzitheodorou, Yanis Varoufakis’ childhood friend and information systems professor at the University of Colombia in the US, who was acting Chief Secretary for Information Services. As admitted by Varoufakis on the recording, Chatzitheodorou had developed the scheme to hack into the tax records of Greek citizens with the use of his own personal laptop.

Knowing very well that he will soon be faced with the law, Michalis Chatzitheodorou on Tuesday denied any “intervention in the information systems of the Treasury" claiming in a statement that all revelations regarding the hacking of the ministry systems are "absolutely untrue". Although Varoufakis did not outright name Chatzitheodorou during the infamous teleconference with the London-based Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum, his identity was made known via the Greek media.

During the teleconference, the former Greek finance minister described in detail the attempt to create a parallel banking system which would resort to the drachma “at a touch of the button”, if negotiations with Greece’s creditors failed.

On the role of Chatzitheodorou he said that the general secretariat of information systems was controlled by him directly.

     "I appointed a good friend of mine, a childhood friend of mine, who had become a professor of IT at Columbia University in the States, and so on, I put him there because I trusted him to develop the system. At some point, a week or so after we moved into the ministry, he calls me up and says to me: You know what, I control the machines, I control the hardware. I don’t control the software. The software belongs to the troika-controlled general secretariat for public revenues.
    "What do we do? So we had a meeting, just the two of us, nobody else knew. He said: Listen, if I ask for permission from them to start implementing this program then the troika will immediately know we are designing a parallel system. Well, I said, That won’t do, we don’t want to reveal our hand at this stage. So I authorised him, and you can’t tell anyone that, this is totally between us, to hack…"

In his statement Chatzitheodorou says that  "The General Secretariat of Information Systems and Logistics and me personally, have designed, let alone attempted, any kind of intervention to its systems." He also notes that "the General Secretariat for Information Systems has established procedures and strict standards that guarantee the security of personal data“

During the 4th minute of the recording, Varoufakis begins to analyze the main points of his plan B. Just before the 5th minute, he goes into detail on how they were going to create alternative accounts of all Greek taxpayers, including the use of smart phone applications. In order to achieve this they planned to issue new pin codes, which in turn would have formed a parallel payment system. At 6 minutes into the recording, Varoufakis begins talking about the parallel banking system that would have allowed the government to act when the European Central Bank would close Greek banks and at 7 minutes into the recording he begins talking about his childhood friend whom he had appointed to hack the software program of his own ministry.

It should be noted that before the media began broadcasting the recording, Varoufakis was denying all the reports and charging the opposition and the media of propaganda against him and the SYRIZA party. A few hours after the media disseminated the recording, he made a statement on his personal blog admitting that it was all true.

(His statement leaves it to be understood that instead of negotiating with Greece's creditors in the first few months after SYRIZA was elected to power, he was more concentrated on materializing his plan to return Greece to the drachma. Another interesting factor is that the statement was written in the third person.)

Here is his statement.

     "During the Greek government’s negotiations and until the referendum, Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis oversaw a working group with a remit to prepare contingency plans against the creditors’ efforts to undermine the Greek government and in view of forces at work within the euro zone to have Greece expelled from the euro. The working group was convened by the Minister, at the behest of the Prime Minister, and was coordinated by Professor James K. Galbraith."

Then the saga begins. Speaking as an outsider, the statement on Varoufakis claims that he was/is a victim of strong criticism from the media and that the government had no contingency plan in the case of Grexit.

     "Ever since Varoufakis announced the existence of the working group, the media indulged in far-fetched articles that damage the quality of public debate, attempting to describe the group as a ‘conspiracy’ working on the return to the national currency. This is defamation. The Ministry of Finance’s working group worked exclusively within the framework of government policy and its recommendations were always aimed at serving the public interest, at respecting the laws of the land, and at keeping the country in the euro zone."

In addition to his own statement, Varoufakis published a public statement by Professor Galbraith in which he admits that he was a coordinator of this secret working group.

Commenting on the fresh evidence First Deputy Speaker Alexis Mitropoulos on Tuesday blamed Varoufakis for the austerity of the measures.

    "With his lack of modesty, his naivety, his zeal to showcase his own ideas it seems that he has hurt the Greek issue."

Mitropoulos said and added:"German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and the creditors were likely aware of his intentions and as a result we should now accept these harsh measures and plan. Probably he had confided them or had expressed them as a threat, or as one of his plans," he said in statements to private MEGA TV.

HellasFappe's take on things

Frappers... A couple of years ago, a leap to death from the general secretary of the culture ministry almost brought down the entire government of Costas Karamanlis. For days the general secretariat's secret affair with one of his cabinet members made front page news in an attempt to discredit the government of Costas Karamanlis. While today a plan to return Greece to the drachma and take our economy back 2, or even 3 generations is described as being "propaganda" (and even an ingenious plan) by the same people who used the leap of death to crawl their way into power.

Obviously the severity of these two cases cannot be compared, yet there is no hysteria over Varoufakis' actions at all. One case involves a hot affair, and was a cause to bring down a government and the other involves the savings of Greek citizens and yet there is not a care in the world and the government and leadership of this country is not to blame Why? The answer is simple. The Left is in power and the Greek state is finally naked in the sense that it has always worked in favor of the progressive factions in Greece. No wonder all the unions are operated by the progressives.

Not even Spielberg could have come up with a better scenario. Think about it, a minister plans to devise a program to purposely exit Greece out of the Eurozone at the behest of the Prime Minister and admits this to hedge fund investors who we all know are waiting to prey on Greece like vultures. Yet not one nose is bleeding over the matter because hey... its not cool to be bothered with what the Left does because it is "progressive". It is insane!  Here is actual evidence of a planned coup by secret group, or as described by HF in previous articles as the 'drachma lobby" with hired foreign and domestic experts who are all somehow linked to Columbia University. The same university which George Papandreou also gave lectures at, and the same institution which is highly backed by none other than billionaire George Soros. Let us not forget that Soros brought down the Bank of England a few years ago, and we all know how much he wanted to bring down the Eurozone. Another interesting bit of information that was revealed on Tuesday involves an aide of the Clinton family who said that had Greece exited the Eurozone in 2010 (or under George Papandreou -as planned-) today Greece would have been a haven for business and an entirely different place. Should we also remind all of you that the Clintons are also highly backed by George Soros as well?

Imagine if all of this was happening under a conservative government. Greek cities would be thrown into complete chaos by swarms of anarchists (such as the December riots 2008), the public sector would have been staging protests all over the country, schools would have already shut down, half of Greece would have been ablaze and the West (US and UK) would have even called back their Ambassadors. But no... Now that a progressive government is in power, and a minister has admitted devising a plan to destroy everything Greeks have worked for for the past 20+ years -with the supposed green light of the prime minister himself- everything is peachy. The media is at fault for making a big deal out of the case, and no one should be concerned because according to progressives this move was not only right, it was also "ingenious".

Greek citizens may have once again been duped by the progressive left, but luckily they are now beginning to realize that they were also conned into voting "NO" at the recent referendum a few weeks ago because -as revealed over the past few days- the overall plan from day one was to return Greece to the drachma! It is going to be quite (sadly) entertaining to see the reaction of Greek tax payers when the Leftist Memorandum comes to pass (especially those who voted for the government). The previous governments were traitors, they were "germanotsoliades" they dared to vote YES to stay in the Euro, but no banks ever closed, our economy was beginning to show a surplus and the Greek state finally began to shrink.

No wonder no one takes this country seriously at times. There is no logic behind this kind of thinking, only madness. Whatever the Left does is acceptable and whatever the Right does is not. It just proves how divided we are as a society,. how the civil war never ended in Greece, and how a few wannabes play on this to not only widen the gap between us, but to also bank on it.

Greece may have given birth to democracy but it definitely suffers from Varoufakis bourgeois style rock stars who live for five minutes of fame at the expense of the masses. This country has actually been suffering from this for 40 years now and the Left has been very successful in gathering support because they present it as something cool, something progressive, something different.

Digest it, political parties are companies and sell ideologies. They do not care about me or you or any one of us, all they care about is their five minutes of fame and power (the money also helps). The repercussions of what happened in July will begin to surface once tourism dies down, and Greek citizens realize how much damage was made.

We need to rid ourselves once and for all from this type of thinking. We don't need foreign armies to destroy this country, we do a pretty good job of poking our own eyes all by ourselves.

SHOCK - Armed robbers raid packed hotel in Crete and begin firing Kalashnikov guns

Three armed men (an Albanian and two Greeks - locals) “invaded” in Creta Maris Hotel in Hersonissos early on Saturday morning. Wearing hoods and holding kalashnikov rifles, they went straight to the jewelry store. In order to intimidate the flood of tourists who were staying at the hotel, they even began firing their guns in the air. The local police were rushed to the scene, and began an immediate evacuation process.

Following this there was an exchange of gunfire between the robbers and police officials but authorities finally managed to stop them in their tracks. All three robbers were reported to be seriously injured. They were transferred to the General Hospital of Heraklion and it has been reported that two are in critical condition.

At the scene and after an initial investigation, authorities found a gun, two kalashnikovs, jewels from the store they robbed as well as a stolen car.

Unfortunately, tourists are still in shock over the events that unfolded at the Creta Maris Hotel.  Eye witness accounts describe a horrific scene during which the robbers and policemen began exchanging firepower in the hotel lobby. They claim that participants from a cardiology conference were running for safety while others were locked in their rooms.

According to a separate report on ProtoThema, an employee of the jewelry shop was also rushed to the hospital after being wounded by a AK-47 stock hit on the head. The report claims that the man was initially taken hostage by the perpetrators, when they attempted to escape.

Thankfully no other injuries were injured.

Members of Conspiracy of Cells Invade Golden Dawn Trial - Cause Chaos (VIDEO)

The trial of 69 leaders and members of the Golden Dawn party, which is currently going on at the Korydallos prison in Piraeus, was interrupted on Friday when a group of far-leftists suddenly -and without warning- entered the premises screaming out "fascists!". The protesters, most of which are members of the terrorist group "Conspiracy of Cells" apparently entered the courthouse from a side door and caught everyone -as well as authorities- by surprise. Reports claim that they threw bottles at Golden Dawn defendants which fell on journalists and photographers' heads and shouted "shame murderers, they will kill us all."

Police officers did not manage to stop the protesters and the judge ruled that safety measures were unsufficient.

During the chaos, the parents of the late anti-fascist activist Pavlos Fyssas grabbed the opportunity to hurl abuse towards the defendants. The mother of Fyssas was apparently annoyed when the lawyers of the defendants asked that security measures be taken in order to ensure the safety of the defendants during the trial (especially after the fact that accused terrorists suddenly entered into the courtroom).

Shortly afterwards the trial continued but the was adjourned defendants’ lawyers asked for the adjournment of the trial because, as they said, a trial cannot take place under such tense atmosphere. As such, the presiding judge decided to adjourn the trial until June 4th, further escalating the situation.

It should be reminded that the Conspiracy of Fire terrorist group is a radical leftist anarchist organization based in Greece. According to Wikipedia the group made its debut on January 21st, 2008, with a wave of 11 firebombings against luxury car dealerships and banks in and around the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki. Monthly waves of arson were followed by proclamations expressing solidarity with arrested anarchists in Greece and elsewhere. In September 2009, following an escalation to the use of crude time bombs, four suspected members of the group were arrested. In November 2010 two more suspects were arrested while attempting to mail parcel bombs to embassies and EU leaders and organizations. The organization was designated as a terrorist group on October 13, 2011, by the U.S. Department of State.

In one of their published texts titled "The Sun Still Rises", they put forward a redefinition of the concept of revolutionary "organization" as an entity consisting of many groups and individuals of various backgrounds, united through a common critique of capitalist society and a commitment to "immediate freedom" through urban guerrilla tactics.

Two of their proclamations published in athens.indymedia.org on May 19, 2010 (a G.Soros supported website), explained that they represented a "third pole" of anarchist thought in Greece, anarcho-individualism, contrasting it with social anarchism and insurrectionary anarchism. Uniquely among Greek armed groups, this group claims to use the word "terrorist" in a favorable light and some of its writers even refer to themselves as nihilists.

Unfortunately, most of the domestic and foreign media coverage of political radicals in Greece has mainly focused on the far-right Golden Dawn party but has somehow but has somehow suspiciously always ignore the extremism on the left.

BUSTED - Illicit trade in antiquities gang headed by major hotel owner!

The owner of a major hotel chain in the Attica region is according to some press reports suspected by authorities of being in charge of a gang involved in the illicit trades in antiquities and sacred icons.

At the request of a judicial officer in Ioannina, who had discovered the hotelier’s suspect activities an investigation was immediately launched by authorities in Athens and three major cities in the Peloponnese, in Thessaly as well as in Epirus.

Reports in the Greek press, quoting police officials, claim that during the investigation in Thessaly, one alleged member of the gang, who worked as a shepherd, was found with three pistols, about 80,000 euros in cash and at least three luxury cars.

(Apparently business was good!)

The same reports also talk about a police raid that took place in a bookbindery shop in down town Athens, promising to reveal all on Friday afternoon.

Greek prisoners eager to “welcome” father of 4-yr Ani

It is something that is not said publicly, but everyone knows that it happens. The unwritten laws in Greek prisons could be harsher than those of common law, and this is not just the opinion of Hellasfrappe, it is something that we have witnessed in previous cases (example pedophile father and murderer M.Duris from Ermioni who one decade ago raped his son, killed him and then gave a winning performance of a grieving father). Let us not be misunderstood, HellasFrappe does not applaud this type of violence but merely stating a reality.

Greek prisons are full of hard line criminals who have committed terrible crimes, however, they seldom have compassion for pedophiles, rapists and child murderers. According to a report in ProtoThema, when the news of Savvas Borisova – little Ani’s father who murdered and boiled the body of his own child - was zapped through the prison system, prisoners began rubbing their hands and said that they were eagerly waiting for him.

     “Tell the bastard we’re waiting for him!” is the general sentiment that was published by protothema from prisons around the country.

This is probably why authorities decided to transfer him to an isolated prison cell on the island of Corfu, away from other inmates, so that he will not be in harms way.

It is no secret that child murderers have short prison stays in Greece since they are at most times tortured by other inmates.

It should be reminded that little Ani was tortured and killed by her own father before her body was sliced, boiled with other vegetables, placed in a mixer and pulped and then disposed off in trashcans around Athens where stray dogs and cats are abundant. Earlier this week the father of the dead child confessed and gave authorities an unprecedented account of how he killed his daughter after the child’s mother had left her in his care. The graphic details of the crime, which some claim is first of its kind globally, were described in an earlier report by HellasFrappe which can be read by clicking HERE. Parental guidance is advised.

After being arrested, Ani's father, Savvas, was charged with infanticide and as of Wednesday afternoon is in an isolated cell at Corfu prison.

Based on the evidence collected, the 27-year-old has been charged with murder committed in a calm frame of mind and with disrespecting the dead, as well as moral instigating false evidence by a witness and weapons use.

The attention is now on the mother of the dead child. The 25-year-old mother has been accused of exposing the child to danger resulting in death and giving false evidence.

During the initial investigation, and according to ProtoThema she had said:

    “All I have testified in earlier depositions is not true. I said everything because I love him and because I believed that if I told the truth to police, Savvas would be in trouble. On March 20, I went to Germany to find my friend so that he could give me some money. While I was there, I spoke on the phone with Ani and when Savvas gave the child to his mother to take care of it, we talked and I asked him if the child is well.
    All the times we spoke on the phone, Ani would tell me that she was well. The last time I spoke with Ani was on April 9. She told me that she is well with her father and that he was buying her chocolate eggs. After that, every time I spoke with Savvas until April 22 he told me that the child was with his mother and fine.
    It was only on April 14, when I called him, he told me that he wasn’t well, crying. He said he didn’t want the money and just wanted me to come back home because something bad had happened to him. The same happened the next day when I called him and he said, ‘I want you to come back.’ I thought he had taken drugs and didn’t know what he was saying. 

The mother had said that the thought that her partner may have been hitting the child passed through her mind on April 22. She had said:

    “I came back from Germany on April 22 and then Savvas told me that he had lost the kid. As soon as I found out, I searched around the neighborhood and in the afternoon we left for Bulgaria. We didn’t go to the police because Savvas told me that the “Smile of the Child” (children’s organization) would find the kid and that if I were to go to the police they would take it away because I left it with him, a drug addict. I told you the story about Sylvia (initial story concerning a friend who took the child) so that Savvas wouldn’t get in trouble and my child get taken away. I constantly asked Savvas what happened to the child and he kept coming up with different dates. Then I started thinking that Savvas may have hit the child and made her run away because she was scared. During the last few days I started to believe that the child may have hurt herself by accident in the house and died and Savvas have hid the body because he is afraid. When I came back from Germany Savvas told me that he sold Ani’s clothes for 50 euros to someone who works at a souvlaki place. When I asked him why he did this, he said ‘so that God can see and bring Ani back to us.’”

Earlier depositions

In earlier depositions, the mother had claimed that she had left her daughter with “Sylvia” so that the police would not accuse the little girl's father of any kind of wrongdoing. She had gone as far as giving a description of a fictional woman to the authorities thinking that they would buy into her story and she had also said that Savvas was pressing her to leave for Bulgaria so that authorities would not accuse her of being responsible for negligence of the child.

Panousis defends his comments

In other related news, Alternate Minister for Civil Protection Yiannis Panousis defended his comment on the alleged murderer of four-year-old Ani, saying reactions were "irrational and hypocritical."

Some may remember that in a previous report posted by HellasFrappe Panousis, who was speaking about the heinous crime, said that it was "an extreme, non-human behavior" adding that "there's a code of honour in jail... and this is why... I believe in these cases we will soon have the death of the perpetrator."

His statement apparently raised a storm, mainly on the Internet, with some people going as far as saying this amounts to incitement to murder.

Responding to the criticism, Panousis said:

     "I find at least irrational, hypocritical or a pretext for someone to interpret so easily the scientific and empirical ascertainment of a scientist as an incitement to murder."
     "The unbearable lightness of political wrangling cannot exceed morality, logic or science," he added and continued: "It's surprising that after my statement that 'we'll have dead in Skouries' I was not accused of promoting bloodshed in the region." 

The Motive and the evidence

Police believe the 27-year-old father's motive was jealousy, because the girl's 25-year-old mother, also a Bulgarian, had a boyfriend in Germany that gave her money and the suspect feared he would be abandoned.

Forensics experts found traces of blood in the apartment in Athens where the young girl lived with her father and on implements taken from the scene, as well as the suspect's blood on a knife and sheet.

A separate report from the state news agency said that witnesses are finally coming forward with accounts that the father had abused the child prior to the incident.

How the case was unravelled

The case started to be unravel when authorities were put onto the trail of a third Bulgarian national, a friend of the father, who they were told might have information on what took place. Let us keep in mind that the child had been reported missing, and an alert was already issued on live television. With the assistance of the Bulgarian police, Greek authorities tracked down the said individual, to whom the suspect had partially related what happened, without admitting that he killed the girl.

Regarding the mother's friend in Germany, authorities noted that they had made contact with him and that he confirmed giving the mother 12,000 euros because they were friends. Authorities have also confirmed that the mother travelled to Germany prior to Greek Orthodox Easter and had left little Ani with her father, returning on April 21st, and that the little girl had stayed with the suspect's mother for two weeks and was returned to him before Easter.

Mysterious claims from psychos!

On Wednesday, Maria Kalogeropoulou, claiming to be a psychologist for OKANA (Anti-Drug Center) was interviewed at various channels, giving details into the crime. According to her family, the 50-year-0ld suffers from psychological problems. The motive for her action was to help get leniency for the young father. Her false identity was later revealed and the two major television channels that hosted her retracted her statements.

Gruesome details of 4-year old Ani Borisova murder released - WARNING VERY GRAPHIC

The following report contains brutal details of the murder of little Ani Borisova, a 4-year-old child, who had been reported missing by her Roma Bulgarian parents since April 21st, only to be discovered murdered (in the most brutal way) from her own father. Parental Discretion is advised.

The 27-year old father of 4-year old Anni not only killed and sliced up the body of his Innocent child, he boiled her for two days along with potatoes, rice and onions, and then began spreading this mixture across Athens where stray dogs were rampant so that there could be no trace of the hideous murder. According to reports when the cooking was done he even removed the outer layer of skin from his own daughter's face! Greek society at large is in complete awe with this tragedy and even more so with the hideous details of the case which emerged on Tuesday.

Detailing the gruesome events, a report from defencenet noted that the after murdering his own child, he cut up the body, cooked it in a pot with potatoes, onions and rice, flushed a good portion of it in the sewage system and slowly disposed of the rest at various trash cans around Athens where stray dogs are abundant.

Authorities pointed out that Ani's father, is a heavy drug addict, has confessed to the killing during questioning. Initially, he had said that he found the child dead after waking up from a drug induced haze and amid panic disposed of her body.

Attica prefecture police chief Christos Papazafiris described the case as unprecedented and a first in Greek history. Police officers were shocked by the gruesome details of the desecration of the child's dead body, Papazarifis said.

As such, they released an official statement with the following hair-raising conclusions (here they are in a brief form, more details can be read further down):

• No trace of Ani’s body is likely to be found as her father effectively destroyed it, by cutting it up, cooking it, and disposing of it in the toilet and in other locations.
• Savvas had put towels on the windows to absorb the steam
• On the 12th of April Savvas disposed of the last trace of Ani’s body
• Trace’s of Ani’s blood was found on various objects and in the house
• Savvas’s blood was found on a knife and a sheet
• Following the murder, Savvas bought new furniture and new mops and brooms to conceal the crime
• Savvas then sold Ani’s stroller, toys and crib to a Romanian owner of a store in the area on the 16-17th of April for 55 euros.
• According to police, the motive for the crime was Savvas’s jealousy of the little girl
• Savvas cleaned the pipes of his house and had planned to have them replaced
• Savvas also transported portions of the body in food containers to conceal their true nature.
• The first indications are that Dimitria did not know of Ani’s death
• There was no indication that the child had any significant health problems that may have contributed to her death.

The gruesome crime has shocked the public in Greece. As the 27-year-old was taken to be arraigned before magistrates he was heckled by a crowd calling him a ‘monster’.

    "It is highly unlikely that we will find evidence (a bone, etc.) from the four-year old victim's body", said Papazarifis said, leaving it to be understood that the 27-year old disposed of all traces of his child.

Describing the horrific events the report quoted one policeman as saying that the culprit "took a plastic basin and began to slice and then pulp up the lifeless body of the dead child (which he had earlier killed) in (some sort of) a mixer. He then placed towels along the windows of the basement (where the crime occurred) so that his neighbors could not pick up on the nasty smells. Following this, he took a large pot and began to boil the crushed remains of the child."

The report on defencenet said that the father wanted the mixture to resemble food and so that is why he threw it in the pot with vegetables.

     ''I was boiling it for two days ... '' the 27-year old Bulgarian father apparently told authorities -with what some describe was absolute composure-. I then he wrapped some of the mixture in foil (or placed it in) plastic bags and "(I) began disposing it at various trash bins. The last piece was disposed of at Easter".

Ani Borisova was reported missing on April 21 by her 25-year-old mother, who on Tuesday was also charged with criminal negligence and perjury. According to reports, the mother initially claimed that she had left the child with another Bulgarian woman for a few days to travel to Germany and later discovered that her daughter had disappeared when she returned to Athens. At some point, the mother had even spoken about a possible kidnapping.

A police investigation in the case led authorities to arrest Ani's 27-year-old father on Monday as the key suspect of this gruesome homicide and then her mother was also taken into custody for allowing her daughter to be at risk and perjury.

Police investigators estimate that the tragedy occurred in early April on 8 or 9, long before the mother reported the disappearance. The most shocking part of all, is that not only did he expose of the body, but he also calmly sold the little girl's crib, stroller and toys to a Romanian neighbor for a mere 55 euros. (This is important because it shows his hauntingly calm composure after the murder.)

Several days after the murder he also abandoned his apartment and began residing in various hotels in the Metaxourgeio area, and he even stayed at his mother's home in the Renti area.

       "Usually (culprits such as these commit) suicide or suffer from a violent death from  someone else. This cannot be tolerated even from the man who committed the crime" said Deputy Minister for Citizen Protection, Yiannis Panousis, when asked by reporter's on Tuesday what the offender's future will hold.
      "You cannot analyze this, either through forensic, criminal and/or social means. We are talking about extreme, non-human behavior, especially since it was his own child - it was not someone's child that had been abducted or something like that. This is a dark side of human nature that cannot be examined," said Panousis.

Panousis went on to say that when someone kills their mother or child ... and there is atrocities such as the above involved, or rape, then the prison system is not very fair with that man.

     "There's a code of honor in prisons, quote unquote. This is why I believe that in cases such as these we will soon discover that the perpetrator (suddenly) died."

Press reports claim that Ani Borisova, a 4-year-old child, who had been reported missing by her Roma Bulgarian parents since April 21, was apparently found dead. It should be reminded that young Anni’s disappearance was announced on April 24th. The shocking report would have probably gone unnoticed, however, it was announced that her young Bulgarian father not only sliced up his daughter's body, disposing some of her body parts in the sewage system, but he also boiled some of her body parts and scattered them throughout several locations around the greater Athens area.

The shocking details began to surface when authorities said the corpse of the Bulgarian girl may never be found, only a few hours after the suspect allegedly admitted to killing his daughter.

A key witness in the case, said to be the Bulgarian man's roommate, apparently told authorities that the 27-year-old suspect, identified as “Savvas”, had made suspicious comments to him.

Aside from blood samples that were found at the suspect’s apartment, and which apparently belong to the little girl, Greek police also began to question several discrepancies in the statements of both the father and mother. Obviously the question now centres on the motive and if the mother of the child, who reportedly lived elsewhere, can shed light on the case.

Luckily the 27-year-old father (reported to be a heroin addict) has been arrested.

Anarchists Attack Yianis Varoufakis in Exarchia

Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis and his wife Danae Stratou were verbally assaulted by a group of anarchists while dining at a restaurant in the Exarchia district on Tuesday evening. Following the attack, Varoufakis said he believed that the attack was not part of an organized plan intended to injure and/or provoke him, and said he didn't believe that it was part “of the overall efforts towards [his] political deconstruction” either.

According to him, while he was having dinner with his wife, a group of anarchists entered the establishment and began yelling obscenities at him while simultaneously throwing glass objects in the couple’s direction so as to force them to leave the area. After the situation calmed down and the restaurant was emptied, the anarchists continued to be abusive towards the Greek Finance Minister as he and his wife began making their way out of the restaurant.

Varoufakis told reporters that it was at this point that he decided to talk to the group (about 5,6 angry ones) and following a lengthy non-violent discussion, he left without any threats. Varoufakis, who reportedly lived in this area in the early 2000s, noted that “the response to the anger and violent acts of these people cannot and must not be disorderly retreat or violent suppression”.

Varoufakis said that when some of the group moved in a threatening manner against him, his wife embraced him so that the potential attackers could not get at him without hitting her first.

Greek reports said that as many as 10 people, who had their faces covered, verbally abused him and his wife.

POLICE RAID: Dozens detained in Roma camps in Zefiri

Police authorities raided Roma camps in the area of Zefiri (West Attica suburb) early on Thursday morning, with the detainment of dozens of suspects, some of whom were apparently arrested. Reports claim that the operation intended to address drug trafficking, illicit use of weapons and other forms of petty crime which are suspected of being quite common in this area.

Authorities investigated the area and the whole operation was supported by the riot police, as well as the Financial Police (in other words the source of revenue of specific suspects were also investigated).

Suspicious parcel found outside Athens courthouse

Authorities prompted a quarantine after a suspicious envelope that contained a foreign powder was found outside an Athens courthouse. The bomb squad (TEEM) and fire brigade were called in right away. Reports claimed that a secretariat director as well as a judicial officer were given an anthrax antidote as a precautionary measure.

The envelope was addressed to Prosecutor Ilias Zagoreos, but did not contain a return address. It also contained documents and accusations against a health insurance director at IKA, but reports said that it did not include any threats and/or some sort of a declaration.

The powder was then sent for a chemical analysis.

Anarchists continue to occupy Athens University, Samaras calls Tsipras to enforce law (VIDEOS)

The Rectorate of the University of Athens remained occupied by anarchists for the 16th day in relation to the hunger strike launched by several prison inmates, with university authorities appealing to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and other political leaders to end the occupation.

As such, leader of the main opposition New Democracy party, Antonis Samaras, called on the Prime Minister to finally enforce the law and on the police to immediately intervene in the University premises that are under occupation.

     "It should have happened a few days ago," noted Samaras, noting that conditions of state dissolution and violation of fundamental rights of thousands of students and their families exist.

He said that the rectors' plea is revealing and that the responsible alternate minister's public statements show the impasse of the so-called unprecedented dialogue-policy with the hooded individuals.

     "Lawlessness dominates every passing moment for which the government and its provocative policy are fully responsible," added Samaras.

A statement was released on Monday, with university authorities arguing that lives are at risk, claiming that drug abuse is taking place on university grounds. They also note that the institution is unable to function on a basic level, since essential services are housed in the occupied buildings, such as finances, administration, student welfare, graduation ceremonies and cooperation with foreign universities.

Concluding their statement, the university authorities called the Prime Minister and political leaders to assume their responsibilities and find a solution to end the hostage situation of the Rectorate.

A number of solidarity actions and protests have been planned outside the Rectorate on Tuesday. At 9am a solidarity demonstration has been called, followed by a solidarity march towards the Courts at 11am. Finally, a motorcycle demo will take place at 5pm.

The anarchists who have occupied the Rectorate responded with a statement of their own, stressing their solidarity to the ongoing hunger strike and accusing the university authorities of generating a climate of fear, by surrounding the buildings with police forces.

According to the anarchists, the accusations of drug use are a “product of morbid imagination and malice”. They also released a video of the interior, to demonstrate that no damages have been caused to university property during the occupation.

BUSTED - Ex-cop in charge of major heroin smuggling cartel

The Greek police recently busted a heroin cartel in a combined operation with the US Drug Enforcement Agency. According to reports, the cartel was attempting to transport more than 370 kilos of heroin from Turkey to Western European countries.

A report in To Vima said that during the crackdown a 60-year-old retired police officer was arrested who appears to have acted as the head of the specific cartel. The former officer was apparently working with two Slovenian truck drivers – aged 33 and 45 respectively. To Vima said that authorities had been aware of the retired officer’s involvement in organized crime for well over ten years but did not have the necessary evidence to prosecute him.

The 60-year-old had served in a number of police departments and services and had always been careful not to draw the attention of the internal affairs service. This all changed a short while after his retirement when he apparently got involved with shipping companies and started to become involved in various criminal activities (smuggling illegal cigarettes towards Great Britain, etc).

The report said that between 2005-06 authorities located one of his shops in Scotland containing huge quantities of methamphetamines, while other reports indicate that he was also involved in criminal activities in the occupied territories on the divided island of Cyprus. Through his contacts, the former officer even managed to become a prominent leader in the underworld, acting as a “liaison” between Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria.

Vicky Stamati says she will “reveal all” on bribes and procurement scandal

The wife of former National Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos is planning to tell all on the major bribes and procurement scandal. Stamati, who was recently recaptured, after becoming a wanted fugitive last week, announced that she would visit prosecutor Grigoris Peponis on Monday in order to submit a supplementary deposition on the armaments scandal.

It should be reminded that Tsochatzopoulos is a founding member of the socialist PASOK party and served as defense minister under the Costas Simitis government between 1996-2001.

According to reports, she intends to reveal everything she knows in relation to the people involved in the major scandal which basically goes contrast to everything she has said so far (since she maintained that she did not know of her husband's shady dealings).

At the moment, the scandal is being appealed, with the former members of the Government Council on National Defense (KYSEA) at the time being summoned to testify in court. This means that former PM Costas Simitis, Evangelos Venizelos, Yannos Papantoniou, Vaso Papandreou and many, many others will be called to testify.

On February 15th, 2015, the remaining defendants that were on trial in the bribing case for the Russian TOR-M1 anti-missile systems were pronounced guilty by a Greek Felony Court. The five defendants (including former Cypriot Interior Minister Dinos Michailidis, his son Michalis Michailidis, former legal State adviser Anastasios Sofos, along with his wife Maria, and arms dealer Fouad al-Zayat) were found guilty on acts of corruption and money laundering.

As such, Dinos Michailidis received a sentence of 15 years for money laundering, Michalis Michailidis 15 years for money laundering, Anastasios Sofos was sentenced to life for passive bribery as well as 12 years for money laundering, Maria Sofos, on the other, was sentenced for 12 years for money laundering and Fouad al-Zayat was sentenced to life for active bribery as well as 17 years for money laundering. (Michaelides served as interior minister to two Cypriot governments. He was extradited to Greece in 2013 for the trial.)

According to the charge sheet, the actions of the defendants had facilitated payments by a Syrian-born businessman to Akis Tsochatzopoulos. The court papers said that the payments were apparently linked to a contract agreed by Tsochatzopoulos during his run in office to supply Greece with Russian made anti-aircraft missiles. All four had denied the charges and their lawyers said they would appeal.

It should also be reminded that Tsochatzopoulos was found guilty and jailed in 2013 for tax fraud and taking kickbacks for various arms deals, while his wife Vicky Stamati received a 12-year sentence. During the time of his trial details of lavish spending helped make the corruption case a symbol of the injustice felt by many Greeks who have over the past few years seen their pensions and wages cut on account of the economic crisis.

Swiss prosecutors are apparently going to receive testimonies from those already accused on kickbacks, including former defence minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, his wife Vicky Stamatis and even his cousin Nikos Zigras.

Tsochatzopoulos is the key figure in this unprecedented scandal which has indeed shocked citizens all over Greece.

Yiannis Beltsios (63), an associate of Tsochatzopoulos, was also accused of handing over German bribes totalling more than 63,192,691 Euros and 2,960,225 Swiss francs to Tsochatzopoulos and to the former chairman of Hellenic Shipyards, Sotiris Emmanouil (61) 

During the investigation, authorities also arrested Beltsios (63), on charges that range from felonies of active corruption to money laundering.

Generally unknown to the authorities  was the fact that Beltsios' name surfaced in documents presented during the so-called "golden kickbacks" trial that was held against Tsochatzopoulos. Avatangelos, who was also accused of involvement in paying the bribes with Beltsios, was released on bail of 500,000 Euros.

German documents provided to Greek judicial authorities show the involvement of Emmanuel and Beltsios in the scandal. The former appears to have received the sum of 17 million, which was to be distributed in Greece as a "gift" to compensate for the decision to order the submarines from Germany. Also, the latter apparently acted as an intermediary between Tsochatzopoulos and the HDW/Ferrostaal consortium.

In a previous testimony to a Munich public prosecutor, Matados said that he paid about 1 million Euros to Beltsios.

     "At MIE (a Greek agent of Ferrostaal), we were asked if we could pay something to Mr Beltsios, which we did. We paid Mr Beltsios about 1 million Euros around March 2000. I think that the amount paid in drachmas, I do not remember if it was by cheque or cash. I wasn't told why Mr Beltsios received this money. I believe it was for his excellent work."

Although Matados subsequently denied some of the statements attributed to him, there are other stakeholders who have given similar testimony to the prosecutors in Munich.

Among them is a former senior Ferrostaal executive, Johann-Friedrich Haun, who claimed that Tsochatzopoulos advised them that "Beltsios was someone who knows a lot of people and who could be useful". According to him "the two of them, Tsochatzopoulos and Beltsios, know each other from PASOK and are very old friends."

In December 2011, a Munich court imposed a 140 million Euro fine on Ferrostaal, after two former managers, including Haun, were convicted of bribery. Haun was fined 36,000 Euros and required to pay an additional 30,000 Euros to charities. Both received suspended prison terms of two years.

It should be reminded that in February 2000, a German consortium, comprising Thyssen Nordseewerke, Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (HDW) and Ferrostaal, signed a 1.14 billion Euro contract with the Greek government to build three Type 214 submarines at Hellenic Shipyards and a fourth submarine at HDW's shipyard in Kiel.

The consortium also incurred associated costs – known as offset obligations – to the tune of 1.53 billion Euros. Common but controversial, offsets are where a country demands certain economic benefits – like  technological know how or the of local suppliers to build the equipment they are buying – when they spend large parts of their government budgets buying defence equipment from foreign suppliers.

Another contract, signed in May 2002 involved the modernisation of three Type 209 submarines at Hellenic Shipyards, with an option for a fourth submarine. The contract was worth approximately 469.4 million Euros. Offset obligations in relation to this contract amounted to 563 million Euros. As part of the deal, HDW and Ferrostaal agreed to buy a majority interest in Hellenic Shipyards, signing a contract for that on the same day as the submarine deal.

The bribes for the Russian defence systems are just the tip of the iceberg, and before Tsochatzopoulos was jailed many reports had revealed that there were just as many German bribes. (Aside from that, Tsochatzopoulos was also reported to have befriended many shady characters in Korydallos prison (or major mafia bosses). 

The man who literally gave Tsochatzopoulos away is Nikos Zigras, or his first cousin. The latter implicated many suspects in the case including Michaelides, the general secretary of the Greek Defense Ministry during Tsochatzopoulos’s run as minister (1996-2001) Mr. Yiannis Smbokos, as well as Fouad Al Fayad, and Vlassis Kambouroglou (two businessmen that have already been identified as suspects in a prosecutors’ report that led to Tsochatzopoulos’s arrest).

Quite interestingly, Zigras had said that Michaelides had played a key role in transferring millions of euros in illegal payments which Tsochatzopoulos allegedly then secured for defense procurements. And we all saw what happened to the Cypriot Minister!

Zigras had also said that Smbokos pocketed incredible amounts of money from all these deals and apparently still owed money to Tsochatzopoulos.

In his testimony (which was given to prosecutors several years ago) Zigras had also revealed that former Cyprus minister Dinos Michaelides had been instrumental in transferring the money from the kickbacks by carrying the money in suitcases and not through a web of offshore firms as identified in the prosecutors’ report. What's more, Michaelides’s son Michalis had also apparently helped his father with some of the cash transfers!

The testimony from Zigras was so controversial several years ago that it also revealed how PASOK brought Russian-Pontians from Cyprus to vote in the 2000 elections and baptized them Greek (via nationalization). At the time reports that were following his testimony had said that after they brought them to Cyprus they paid them to vote for PASOK, and especially for Tsochatzopoulos, who was at the time running in the city of Thessaloniki. The same method was used with the Roma community as well.

Certainly, this comes as no surprise since it is common knowledge that the elections in the year 2000 were more or less "fixed" (or rigged). Some may recall that roughly 150,000 names suddenly appeared out of no where on the voting lists and allowed PASOK (and its leader Costas Simitis) to win with a slim 75,000 votes over Costas Karamanlis and the New Democracy party.

In fact, reports at the time had said that the number of residents in villages such as Evros and Thessaly and even citizens in the B' Section of Athens had increased five-fold!

The New Democracy party had a "lukewarm" reaction back then even though it had all the evidence against PASOK with illegal nationalizations from people all over the world (or from Pakistan, to Moldova). Till this day it is unknown why they did not react, but a televised report from a Thessaly reporter in 2011 said that the West had asked (and maybe even warned) ND to step back on this issue. 

According to that report, countless chartered flights arrived and departed in Cyprus as well as in Bulgaria, during those elections, as did "suspicious" flights from "shady" airline companies that are commonly used by the CIA, a day before those elections and throughout all of Sunday until the polls closed.

Zigras told judicial authorities that Akis did everything in his power to get elected and in some cases he would spend more than two million euros to buy votes. In fact he was so determined to become an MP (so as to gain parliamentary immunity) that he would even buy season tickets for PAOK (northern Greek soccer team).

According to him, the ultimate beneficiaries of all this illegal money was Akis, and John Smbokos.

After this revelation, Zigras then admitted that he was the founder of Bluebell and Torcaso (off shore companies). If any of you have been following the case, then you would know that the second company received large sums of money from some of Akis' friends which he would in return invest in property all over Greece.

In this movement of money, Zigras had at the time also mentioned the name of Oratio Mela (HF apologizes for the phonetic spelling) which is specialized in opening offshore accounts. The latter, according to Zigras was also known for being crafty in the movement of money through these companies. It is at this point that Zigras described how the transfers were made between Torcaso, Bluebell and Morelia, which reports had said belonged to Oratio Mela, emphasizing the role of former Cyprus minister Dinos Michaelides.

Michaelides was the key figure in the case, or the man who arranged for all the deals to be made, the meetings and the decisions between Fouad Al Fayad, Kambouroglou and Akis Tsochatzopoulos. He is also the person who apparently carried the suitcases which were full of money, while he noted that Smpokos also transferred many sums in bags as well.

Zigras emphasized that he was not involved with the Nobilis off shore company -said to be the company which purchased the neoclassical building on Areopagite Street where Tsochatzopoulos and Stamatis lived-, because the Nobilis company was founded by Smbokos on behalf of Akis Tsohatzopoulos. Smpokos says, gave the shares to Tsohatzopoulos, who purchased this property through this transaction.

The purchase was a "virtual" reality underlined Zigras because not a penny was paid on the house itself but only on the taxes and its expenses.

Following the sale of the home, Zigras introduced Asterios Economidis of Arcon to Akis Tsohatzopoulos who is also in custody. Economides was responsible for refurbishing and remodeling the home and had become a good friend to Aki since then.

For the purchase of Komnas Trakas, where the offices of Akis Tsochatzopoulos were located prior to his jailing, Zigras said that Akis gave him the money to purchase the property, because he did not want to appear as the buyer. "Later on, when I realized the magnitude of the fraud that was involved, I transferred this property to him," he apparently told judicial authorities.

In his testimony several years ago Zigras also referred to an amount of some 2.9 million Swiss francs that was allegedly deposited by MIE in the accounts of Morelia and in Kiprou Mela (for the case of the submarines) and which were then transferred to Zigras' personal accounts in Greece or were given to him in cash.

     "Everything is true," he told the judge, "I gave Mr Tsochatzopoulos the entire amount of 2,960,000 francs" and he continued on by saying that the money deposited in the accounts of Morelia, as well as all the cash that was given to him from 1999 up until 2005, all came from Dinos Michaelides.

We saved the best for last, Zigras also implicated Tsochatzopoulos' present and former wife -Vicky Stamatis and Gudrun Montenchaouer, respectively- who he noted knew -very well- about everything that was going on.

According to him, Tsochatzopoulos never kept any secrets from his wives.

At the time he had also revealed that Akis' former wife Gudrun Molntenchaouer had consented to divorce him and was paid more than 500,000 euros to do so, while she received 3,000 euros per month.

He also implicated Margarita Terzi who reportedly owned a luxury apartment in Thessaloniki, which Akis Tsochatzopoulos purchased for his daughter. Zigras then told authorities that they should also investigate what price was paid for the flat and what Terzi's true relationship is to Tsohatzopoulos and Vicky Stamatis as well as how she suddenly became and adviser at the Greek Department of Defense.

It is going to be very interesting to hear what Stamatis knows, and if Zigras had actually hit the nail right on the nose with the testimony he gave several years ago which ultimately helped authorities put him in jail.
