Acting on a tip, police in Thessaloniki were stunned when they discovered 19 Somali nationals on the bus that was destined for Italy. The same reports in the press noted that each immigrant had to pay between 2,000-3,000 euros to the smugglers to be carried across the boarder into Europe.
And there is more! This particular smuggling ring used fake passengers as a cover who were paid 100 euros for each trip. As such authorities arrested 23 individuals posing as passengers.
In Messolonghi, it was reported that a 58-year-old Turkish national was arrested, while other two individuals are still wanted by authorities, after being caught in an attempted break-in targeting the Migration Division Office in this town. Their attempt to open a hole into the outer wall of this Messolonghi building where the Migration Division is housed was totally foiled when they were spotted by locals.
