Meanwhile in Switzerland an investigation is well under way into whether individuals based in Switzerland helped this former PASOK MP to conceal a trail of millions of euros in kickbacks (and laundered money) that he is believed to have received from military procurement contracts during his tenure.
According to Reuters, Swiss prosecutors have frozen approximately 10 million Swiss francs (the equivalent of 8.2 million Euros) in assets that they claim are linked to Tsochatzopoulos and are now investigating possible links between the former Minister of Defence and Swiss-based individuals.
The same report from Reuters noted that the Swiss federal prosecution service clarified that it was probing several claims of money laundering reported by banks following Tsochatzopoulos’s arrest in April 2012.
Tsochatzopoulos, who is now 73 years-old, was sentenced by a Greek court to eight years in prison in March for failing to accurately declare his income on wealth declaration forms for the period 2008 and 2009. At the time he had apparently described the verdict as being “politically motivated.”
