Hellasfrappe - A Year Of News In Review

The year we are bidding farewell to was full of memorable moments and some that were not that memorable. Aside from hellasfrappe's daily coverage of this year's news and milestones, it was also a year marked by  changes, with many happy and sad moments as well as a multitude of rude awakenings. Earlier in the year, we all witnessed the horror scenes from the tsunami in Japan together, at the same time our hearts swelled with the Arab Spring movement together, our courage and democracy began to be questioned with the riots in Athens and together we gave birth to ideas and solutions. We also learned a little bit more about what Hellenism really means by uncovering more about our geopolitical position, we all shed a tear when we found out that Thanassis Vegos and Nikos Papazogloy passed away and finally we all learned what derivatives, CDS, hedge funds and crooked banksters are doing to countries such as Greece through the voices of the indignant protesters. Indeed, it was a year of revelations, a year of anxiety for us here in Greece, a year of woes for millions of starving families worldwide and a rude awakening to what some term as the New World Order.

The following stories were most read this past year, here is a re-cap of this year's best and worst articles

The bad news is that the year is ending with a possible war in the Eastern Mediterranean, and tension in this area of the world can be cut with a knife. Let us all hope and pray that our planet's military planners think long and hard before attempting to throw our world in an utter chaos once again. We also express the hope that US Congressman Ron Paul wins the 2012 presidential challenge in America for he is the only man in the west that can influence real change on this planet.

The good news is that 2011 was also a year when Hellenes both in Greece and abroad (as well as many friends of Hellenes) began returning to their grass roots. Suddenly, and because of the economic crisis, issues that concern our democracy, human rights, politics, education and the sciences became fashionable topics of discussion again, and long-standing family values, traditions, "filotimo" and "palikaria" returned to our hearts

And finally It was a year when a small blog such as our very own hellasfrappe began operating never once expecting that by the end of the year it would become a hub of information for many Hellenes and non-Hellenes all over the world.

This humbles us greatly here at Hellasfrappe, and we cannot lie, we are (so) proud that you have all embraced this blog so passionately.

We are so honored for your comments, and videos which give rise to new discussions and at the same time diversify every topic we post on our blog and on facebook.

We are so grateful for your sentiments, good and bad, for it gives us strength to continue to do what we set out to while at the same time it also helps us to improve the blog so that it can be the best it can be.

We admire your patience when we make mistakes, and typos because we are in a rush to get the stories we feature out to you

And finally, we cannot put into words what it means to us to unite with Hellenes (and friends of Hellenes) such as yourselves from every corner of this globe.

We thank you all... and I personally thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I would also like to thank all of our contributors for trusting us with their articles. I am deeply honored that you are a part of this new family.

In closing I would like to wish all of hellasfrappe's readers a happy and prosperous new year. May 2012 bring us all more peace, health, democracy and certainly closer together as a people.

God bless You All

Signed
Marina Spanos
