Dimitris Melissanidis, the strongman of AEK's soccer club, gave his deposition earlier this week to examining magistrate for Corruption George Andreadis, who is handling the case concerning the 16 Greek football officials who are accused of match-fixing. Following his deposition, Melissanidis made no statements. The charges -among others-, include setting up, participating and leading a criminal organization, fraud, attempted extortion and bribery.
The Examining magistrate apparently took on the case following an in depth investigation by prosecutor Aristidis Koreas. In the investigative report, which was submitted to the head prosecutor last December, it was revealed that this criminal organization was active between 2011-2013.
The list of the defendants - whose names have not been released by the Prosecution - includes three board members of the Hellenic Soccer Federation (EPO), members of Greece's Central Refereeing Committee (KED) and two Super League soccer club heads.
