A routine vehicle inspection which was carried out in the southern Athens area of Moschato on Sunday night resulted in an unprecedented car chase. As the chase intensified, even gun shots were reported as being fired towards the police.
More specifically, at about 10:30pm DIAS motorcycle police attempted to inspect a suspicious car carrying three people, however the driver decided to abruptly speed off. At some point during the chase, the car decided to brake and the three passengers in the automobile suddenly began running out of the car, but two opened fire against pursuing police officers.
After a lengthy exchange of fire, authorities were able to subdue the car driver, but were unable to catch the other two armed men.
Luckily nobody was injured during the chase.
Press reports later on reported that the three men appear to have robbed a local OPAP betting agency in the area of Alimos (southern Athens).
