According to Greek press reports, former PASOK leader George Papandreou is going to announce his new political party after January 3rd at an open event. On Monday Papandreou was approached by many former socialist MPs, including Costas Laliotis, who attempted to convince him not to proceed in establishing the new party, but their advice proved to fruitless because as it stands Papandreou is determined to move ahead with his decision.
According to ProtoThema, the name of the new political party will be "CHANGE" (or Allagi).
So who is Papandreou expected to take with him if he leaves PASOK?
Thanos Moraitis is believed to be one of his followers, as is Philippos Sahinidis, Costas Triandafyllos, Simeon Kedikoglou, Nikos Sifounakis, Angela Gerekou and who knows maybe even Mihalis Chrysohoidis. Others who are close to Papandreou but are not in PASOK include independent MP Christos Aidonis and SYRIZA MP Markos Bolaris.
Basically, Papandreou is seeking a third of the current PASOK parliamentary group, or basically ten deputies. Nonetheless, it still remains to be seen if he is going to succeed in doing so.
