The majority of Greece's state workers are not even capable of writing something on the computer, let alone operate one, nor are they able to send a simple e-mail says a report in the Ta Nea newspaper.
The report adds that not only are they incompetent on how to use a computer but they have no concept as to what Internet is nor its potential.
According to Ta Nea, 64% do not use email and solely rely on the traditional way of distribution of handwritten documents.
And what is worse, only one in four workers have a good command of the English language, 5.3% speak and write French and only 3.3% German.
Asked to comment on the figures presented by the paper, Minister for Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis confessed that the profile of public employees does not meet modern expectations. He added that the government should now focus on developing their skills and making this category of workers more efficient on their jobs.
That is easy for him to say, but from what we learn, and in accordance with official figures, the number of civil servants in Greece is estimated to be more than 583,338. Greek society will grow old and grey by the time this category of workers learns how to use a computer, send an email, speak in English and/or properly provide services.
