Greece's Parliament is expected to debate lifting the immunity of three lawmakers from the far-right Golden Dawn party next week, including its leader Nikos Michaloliakos and deputy Christos Pappas. They will also debate about the fate of John Lagos. All three men were arrested last fall, days after the murder of a far-leftist rapper by a Golden Dawn supporter.
Judicial authorities, through Greece's press, have released a report characterizing Golden Dawn as a military-style criminal organisation that is involved in criminal activities, but of course all these charges have yet to be proven.
Since then, several more Golden Dawn lawmakers were arrested and are now pending trial.
Golden Dawn first entered the Greek Parliament in 2012 with 18 lawmakers on almost 7 percent of the vote. The pursuit against its leaders has not dented its support, but has rather made it more popular with voters and this was proven during the May 25 election for the European Parliament where it received 9.4 percent of the vote.
