BUSTED - Greeks deceive 360,000 Germans via 36.5mil fake lottery scam!

Sometimes we come across some incredible stories here on HellasFrappe that totally blow us away and the next bit of news is no exception. According to a report from ProtoThema, Greek and German authorities successfully arrested two individuals who managed to deceive hundreds of thousands of German citizens through fake lottery ticket scams. The scam apparently generated more than 36 million euros in profits and the two Greeks who were are arrested are suspected of being the ring leaders.

With the help of the judicial system, and following a request from German authorities, the Hellenic Police together with the Financial Police Unit worked together to track down the suspects and discovered the two players in Athens (and Vouliagmeni). Both men aged 44 and 36, now face charges of fraud and who knows what else after persuading thousands of Germans to buy fake lottery tickets.

On Tuesday morning, and at the request of the Prosecutor of Krefeld, Germany, as well as in the framework of bilateral cooperation and mutual assistance, authorities searched the homes and companies of both men.

As such, authorities seized the following items:

In the house of the 44 year old, in the Athens area:

  • -A PC, external hard drives and a USB portable data storage device,
  • -4 Greek banks passbooks
  • -Greek and foreign business documents and
  • -6 stamps.


In house of the 36 year old in Vouliagmeni, three sealed envelopes were found, containing various documents.

At the offices of the two suspects in Athens, authorities managed to seize the following:

  • -2 Computers,
  • -3 External hard drives,
  • -4 USB portable data storage devices USB and a hard drive inside the casing,
  • -Greek and foreign business documents and
  • -3 Wooden stamps

The investigation is still ongoing.
