Golden Dawn MP Eleni Zaroulia placed under house arrest

Golden Dawn MP Eleni Zaroulia is going to be placed under house arrest, until a higher Greek judicial body decides on her fate, enikos.gr reported on Wednesday. Zaroulia, the wife of jailed party leader Nikos Mihaloliakos, is charged with joining and running a criminal organisation.

According to the report, the prosecutor disagreed with the investigative magistrates on whether she should be jailed or placed under house arrest and the decision is now going to be made by the Judicial Council.

Earlier in the day Golden Dawn MP Costas Barbaroussis and Zaroulia appeared before the examining magistrates investigating the GD case.

Reports in Athens said that Zaroulia apparently submitted a written statement denying all charges and when she appeared before the examining magistrates, she invoked her right to remain silent.

In his deposition Barbarousis apparently claimed to be unaware of the charges against him and that he had a very limited education, meaning that he did not read the case file and did not intend to do so.

Earlier in the week, an appeal launched by Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos regarding the appointment of the prosecutors handling the criminal case against the far-right party was rejected.
