A powerful earthquake that only lasted a few seconds jolted the city of Athens and Attica at about 8.30 on Friday morning. According to the Institute of Geodynamics the earthquake measured about 3.3 on the Richter scale, while its epicenter was located in Marousi, a suburb in the northern part of the Greek capital.
The earthquake, might have been small in magnitude, but it was felt strongly because it occurred at a depth of about 5 kilometers, which means that it was felt across the capital.
As soon as it occurred, various schools across the Greek capital were temporarily evacuated.
The director of the Institute of Geodynamics, seismologist Akis Tselentis, appeared on MEGA Tv shortly after the quake noting that there was no need to worry, adding that there is no prior history of tremors in the area.
