According to Greek press reports, an appeal that was issued in view of the upcoming election to release several detained Golden Dawn deputies, including party leader Nikos Michaloliakos, could possibly be rejected. The far-right party’s MPs apparently filed the appeal in order to take part in the electoral campaign leading up to the snap elections of January 25.
The appeal was apparently submitted by lawmakers Michaloliakos, Christos Pappas, Elias Kassidiaris, George Germenis and Ioannis Lagos, all of whom are currently in pre-trial custody over their alleged involvement in developing and managing a criminal organization.
The same reports note that a final decision is expected to be announced in the next few days by a council of judges.
