Greek Motorists Surrender License Plates To be Exempted From New Tax

Tens of thousands of Greeks motorists are surrendering their licence plates to their nearest tax offices in order to be exempted from a new traffic tax initiative. The motorists claim that they cannot afford the new tax said to be around 130 Euros.  The deadline for motorists to pay this new tax for the 2013 period expires on December 31st 2012 and being the late bloomers that Greeks are, tens of hundreds of motorists waited for the last minute to do so. The State, on the other, expects to absorb some 1,25 billion Euros from this latest initiative but until now reports claim that it has only managed to collect 520 million Euros.
