Society for Prespa Protection Shortlisted For Thiess Riverprize

The NGO Society for the Protection of Prespa has apparently been shortlisted for "The Thiess Riverprize" which is an international distinction which is organised by the International River Foundation in Australia. After two stages of evaluation, the Society for the Protection of Prespa apparently reached the final stage, along with other four candidates, but the winner will be announced at a ceremony scheduled for October 9, in Melbourne, Australia. The prize acknowledges agencies and/or organisations that have developed and implemented outstanding and sustainable programs in river management. The Greek entry submitted its project titled Restoration and Management of Wet Meadows in Lake Mikri Prespa, aiming to protect globally endangered species such as the Dalmatian Pelicans as well as manage the aquatic ecosystem of Mikri Prespa Lake efficiently. The mission of the Society for the Protection of Prespa is to maintain and strengthen the relationship between people and nature in the region and to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Prespa for the benefit of its inhabitants and of all those interested and concerned, today and in the future.
