SYRIZA Clashes With SYRIZA On Account Of Karamanlis

Following Tsipras’ speech about Konstantine Karamanlis at a Karamanlis Foundation event at the Athens Music Hall (Megaron Mousikis) last week many intra-party clashes have broke out in the main opposition party between forces that lean to far to the left, and those who are now learning towards the center.

Tsipras' move towards the center-left and the center-right is more than apparent but this is frustrating some of his MPs who are in the opinion that the party should begin leaning towards the far left, or make an opening to ANTARSYA and the Greek Communist Party (KKE). This was expressed at several meetings over the past few days, between SYRIZA's Political Secretariat, Panagiotis Lafazanis and the president of SYRIZA.

While speaking to an audience in Alexandroupolis earlier this week, Tsipras left everyone speechless when he used a famous phrase from Costas Karamanlis about Greece's corrupt oligarchs. Basically he called them "pimps."

HellasFrappe has been monitoring this sudden shift and warned some of its readers weeks ago, and especially after Tsipras' trip to the US, that the SYRIZA leader was nothing more than another opportunist and following the path of PASOK.

The question is how is the rest of SYRIZA reacting to this sudden shift?

Well the positions expressed by Alexis Tsipras, especially his very suspicious opening to the supporters of former conservative leader Costas Karamanlis as well as to PASOK is not only causing headaches at Koumoundourou (SYRIZA headquarters) just weeks before the party's conference, but it is also testing his position in his party.

During a meeting earlier this week some members blasted Tsipras for daring to speak at the event noting that "we grew up learning that Karamanlis destroyed this country with his politics and his choices. How is it possible now to hear that he was radical in his conservatism?"

Imagine their astonishment -and what was really said- when they discovered that he used Karamanlis' famous line in his speech in Alexandroupolis!

Most of the complaints are basically coming from far-leftist Panagiotis Lafazanis. He believes that Tsipras should not approach former PASOK MPs nor flirt with the center right, but rather begin leaning towards the ANTARSYA party and even KKE.

By insisting, some argue that the president of SYRIZA is showing his muscle against some of these resistances but he is determined to press ahead. At SYRIZA's headquarters, all those who are close to Tsipras have already begun to popularize this shift to minimize the negative effects it will have on the party.
