Police authorities on Tuesday said that it discovered a large arms cache, in an ongoing anti-terrorism operation in Exarchia (central Athens) as well as in Piraeus. According to reports, authorities cordoned off the area around an apartment on Skylitsi 4, which anti-terrorism and criminal squads were searching. At the same time searches were also taking place in an apartment in the area of Piraeus.
Earlier on Tuesday, in a private parking lot investigated in Exarchia, a rented car yielded two backpacks containing various weaponry. According to reports authorities found two Kalashnikov military rifles, four grenades of the F1 defence type, three loaded magazines (two of 20 cartridges and one of six), two large sealed boxes containing 720 cartridges (7.62 mm calibre), and a pair of cloth gloves.
