SYRIZA MP Slammed For Claiming That Greece Should Print 100bln Euros

Rachil Makri, a candidate for SYRIZA in the northern Kozani prefecture said the impossible on Friday raised eyebrows when she stated that the Bank of Greece could print up to 100 billion euros to address the liquidity crisis.

Despite being slammed for her statement, and after receiving fierce criticism and ridicule, she still defended what she said.

In a new statement Makri argues that:
“regional central banks such as the Bank of Greece have the right to print (issue) money under the ‘Emergency Liquidity Assistance’ (ELA) mechanism.”
According to her this ability is in place to provide an “institutional treatment” for tackling liquidity crises.

Makri then lashed out at all her critics,  noting that the “unethical attack against SYRIZA members” strengthens the joint efforts and “reveals the dangerous irrelevance of the systemic media”.

Following her statement, SYRIZA’s financial advisor Yiannis Milios also criticised Makri by sharing his thoughts on his twitter account.
“When you make a mistake, to accept it and be quiet requires prudence, modesty and bravery”, he said.
