The unprecedented cold weather front that enveloped across Greece immediately after the coming of the New Year is gradually beginning to retreat and temperatures are expected to rise in most areas of the country by Saturday evening.
The heavy snowfall and sub zero temperatures caused problems to transportation and schools have yet to reopen after the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
On Friday the skies over Attica are partly cloudy with a possibility of snowfall or sleet, while temperatures are set to range between 1-9 Celsius.
The same does not hold true for the northern part of the country where temperatures are set to range anywhere from -11 to 7 Celsius.
Meteorologists predict the temperatures will rise by Saturday evening, but they will still be low.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the electricity supply to the island of Tinos was gradually restored after Army technicians were dispatched to the island via helicopter to help with the repairs. The power supply was cut off when the underwater cable from the (Public Power Corporation) DEH plant on Andros was damaged.
This is good news considering residents on the island were stuck without power for several days. Things are so bad and the bad weather conditions were so harsh against this island that not only did its infrastructure suffer, but a state of emergency was also called on Thursday.
