We want to call out to this group and say that the time to unite our forces is NOW not tomorrow, but today.
Why?
Well, during a speech in Komotini a couple of days ago, Frangoulis Frangos (former Chief of Staff and ex-Minister of Defence), said that the first stage of autonomy in Thrace has begun. HellasFrappe was not surprised with his statement because we have been covering the story extensively for the past three years.
Frangoulis said that the attack for the Balkanization of Thrace has been launched by Turkey and it is being played out as we speak through a branch of the Ziraat Bank, which he noted openly operates in the area of Komotini. According to him, the Turkish bank grants loans to Muslim Greeks at very low rates, with the intention that they purchase as much land as they can in the area as opposed to the Greeks who live there and who can only obtain land via high interest loans - that is if they can even be accepted for a loan.
"The Ziraat Bank gives loans at 3% interest to Muslims to buy Greek land, while Greek banks issues loans at an interest rate of 14%. The result? The purchase of land is 10 to 1 against natural Christians," notes the former Chief of General Staff.In his expert opinion Ankara has inspired the Muslims in this area to adopt the Turkish culture, and aside from that obtain more than 50% of the land here so that they can later purposely claim this land -in the name of Turkey- and demand a possible autonomization of Thrace.
Frangoulis Frangos did not fail to slam Greece's political elite for all their failed policies in this area and noted that all they cared about was to manipulate the voting power of the minorities in this region so that their parties could excel in the Greek parliament, but they remained silent -and indifferent- to the geopolitical games that were being played out by Ankara here. But that is not all, he also criticized them of never adopting any measures to protect the Greek minorities in Turkey and for never demanding the application of the principle of reciprocity in relation to the Muslim minority in Thrace.
He said that unless the Greek state acts now, most of the land in Thrace will soon be owned by Muslims (or more than 50%). Once this is achieved, he said, then expect Ankara to go on to phase two of its plan and initiate the minority there to play the autonomization game.
In such a framework, he called on the political elite to alter its strategy in this area and adopt a different set of policies so that they can prevent the devious plans of Ankara which aim to dismantle and slice up the Greek state.
"The main reason why the country is in a state of economic, political and social collapse is because of the absence of a national strategic plan, (especially in) this region," said the former Minister of Defense.He added that:
"The biggest problem is that politicians refuse to accept the proposals of experts and diplomats who have rich experience and knowledge (of the situation).He is spot on. Our political elite may not like when we note it, but they are susceptible to bribery, and manipulation. There were very few politicians that refused the path of easy money, and as we all know they were either discredited and/or their political careers never progressed.
Some political parties are totally open about it. For instance, some members of SYRIZA generally side with Ankara's positions against Greece -especially in the region of Thrace- and this probably explains why their MPs are always favored in this area during national elections. The same holds true for PASOK. Up until a couple of years ago PASOK was a dominating force in this region and always batted an eye to the systematic soft power politics that Ankara was applying here via its consulate in Komotini.
Commenting on these actions, Frangoulis Frangos said that the Turkish Consulate in Komotini works with a network of agents and every year spends millions to promote Turkey to locals in the form of grants (with the intention of course of "Turkefying" more peoples including the Roma and the Pomaks).
So what are some of these goals:
In a previous report (link at bottom) we noted that even though Turkey claims that it has minorities in more than fifteen countries, only two have been included in its geopolitical plans. These designs have specific aims and are directly related to the exploration and exploitation of energy sources. These plans gave way to the development of a national strategy that includes a series of respective policies and these minorities are part of this design, as well as are meant to serve as valuable tools to Ankara so that it can achieve its overall geopolitical objectives.
Turkey was able to achieve at least one of these objectives, when it brutally invaded and occupied northern Cyprus in the 70s, with the decisive support of England, etc. The second minority to which Turkey has shown an incomprehensible "love" and "devotion" to in the last fifty years is the Muslim minority in Thrace. The Muslim minority in this area of Greece was excluded from the population exchange in 1923 between both countries. This decision was taken so that the Greeks on the islands of Imvros and Tenedos can remain on their land. It is also the birthplace of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos.
Over the past fifty years, Turkey has given incredible power to its Consulate in Komotini. In return, the Consulate has acted as a state within a state -with the incomprehensible tolerance of Greek authorities- and it has successfully managed to create a powerful and well-supported network that literally Turkifies Pomaks and Roma peoples. At the same time it also creates the right conditions that could even one day allow Turkey one day to claim all of -or part of- the energy reserves in the Northern Aegean (especially the Babouris deposit, etc.) depending of course on the developments and/or the reaction of Greece.
Ankara also aims to use the Muslim minority here so that it can have the last word in the eastern area of this region (or around the Nestos River). Most importantly of course, the overall aim is to achieve a continuous and sharp line in the center of the Aegean which would begin in the area of Thrace. (The reason we note this is because the same tactics that are being used in Thrace, are also being applied to quite a few islands in the Dodecanese region.)
If this ever happens then Turkey will claim everything that is located east of that line, and everything that would be west of that line would not necessarily belong to Greece.
In a separate report from Epikaira magazine several years ago we noted the energy wealth in the north, as well as how George Papandreou paved the road for an energy coup by the West here as well. (Now you can understand what Turkey's initial interest is in the area). In that report (link below) we noted that there was also a strong US interest in the Muslim minority in Thrace in this area. In a special report the magazine exposed the involvement of the US Consulate in Thessaloniki in the area of Thrace and how its ultimate goal was to manipulate the Greek Muslim minority here so that it can serve American interests in the wider region. (And we all know that the West has never sided with Greece, but has always sided with Ankara).
That report said that there was a keen interest by US officials on the issues of education in this area, and it even went as far as claiming that they exert pressure on teachers there who dare to teach the Greek language (especially to children in the Dereios area for instance, such as Hara Nikolopoulou (read her story in links below).
The same report also revealed reports from Greek intelligence officials who noted that US officials combed the area of Thrace and met regularly with representatives from extremist groups and other personalities from the Muslim minority there. But their interest did not end there. Apparently the same article in Epikaira said that they attempted to “control” the activities of the Muslim community in Athens as well. According to the article, the Americans aimed at controlling the minority in Athens so that they can later present an issue of a violation of human and religious rights against Greece on their behalf.
Frappers, Thrace is an anchor point of Hellenism in a wider geographical area and the issues presented in this article are but a small piece of a puzzle that is currently at play against the interests of our nation. Any loss of Greek land here, or anywhere across our country, would be devastating for Greece's future (historically, economically, etc.) If you have remained silent in the past, then join HellasFrappe in this fight and help us spread the word. Warn all concerned that if they continue to remain indifferent -and inactive- on this subject then you will alter your vote and issue it elsewhere in the next elections. You are not as powerless as they want you to think. In this geopolitical game, you still have the power to influence who can better represent your organizations, your associations, your Senate and your government. We can still turn things around if we spread awareness of this issue and especially if we remain united.
