PASOK Is Sinking In The Polls, So Now It Decided To Begin Aching For The Greek People

Incredible, but true. The coalition government is facing its first crisis, and it looks like the PASOK party is charging up its mud-slinging machine. The target is the conservative govenment of Antonis Samaras, and the 11.5 billion euros of measures which the government is obligated to adopt, as outlined in the Memorandum, in the framework of lowering State expenses.

(Editor - Quick a box of tissue, reminds of Mrs. Merkel's line who said her heart bleeds for the Greek people.)

Obviously reality has not slapped PASOK in the face and they are still in denial over the the percentage they received in the last national elections and - most importantly - why they received it. And let's say they suddenly developed Alzheimer's as far as those numbers are concerned, haven't they realized that today this percentage has dropped even more and is now running between 7-11%?

PASOK spokeswoman, Fofi Gennimatas, actually had the audacity to call on Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to ignore implementing these measures, and find at least 2 billion euros from the 18 billion, which he said he would find in a speech in Zapeion last year (while he was in the opposition) instead! She said that when PASOK was in power, the New Democracy party never supported its decisions because it never accepted the grave -as she described- "responsibilities" of the Costas Karamanlis government who was responsible for bloating the debt. Instead, she added, Samaras and his party involved itself in coming up with unrealistic policies in the framework of giving false hope to citizens.

Samaras, she added, should immediately summon his ministers and ask them to submit specific proposals in order to cut expenditures. Gennimatas then went on to add that her party is against any horizontal measures because "Greek society cannot endure" any more austerity.

(Editor wiping tears - Poor girl... her heart bleeds as well...)

Now isn';t this peachy... Mrs. Gennimatas forgets that only two and a half years ago, her party brought the IMF to Greece (in what some believe was purposely) and along with it the Memorandums and now she wants PASOK to come out clean?

Are these people for real?

Why did she say all this? The only logical answer is that PASOK is free falling in the polls, because people have finally "awakened" from their deep coma and realized that they were nothing more than a pack of opportunists who till this day are convinced that they are the only true chosen ones who can govern Greece.

And if you are thinking that this was only limited to Fofi Gennimatas, or that she was just expressing her own personal views, think again. On Tuesday night and while meeting with his MPs, party leader Evangelos Venizelos said that PASOK should not be taken for granted, and that the measures are not going to pass -come what may- leaving it to be understood that he was going to oppose them.

Doesn't it just make you want to poke your eyes out when you are reading this?

When he was in power how did ALL the other measures pass?

Did he sit and serve coffee and biscuits to parliamentary MPs and discuss every Article in every law his government passed, or did PASOK throw the riot police to pound thousands of citizens who were opposed to them and then authorize the public power company (DEH) to shut off our power because "he said so", e?

Besides, both leaders, meaning Venizelos and Kouvelis from DHMAR have nor received the package of measures from Samaras' office as of yet... so why is PASOK making a fuss and talking about horizontal measures when it has no clue as to what measures are going to be taken? The party leaders are supposed to meet on Thursday  and negotiate all proposals, so what is all this rhetoric and babbling about days before the meeting?

One really has to wonder if anyone buys into this anymore and we say this because:
  • This party sky-rocketed the Greek debt in the 80s after the famous line by Andreas Papandreou "Tsovola Dosta Ola" (Tsovoloas give it all) and Greece went from several billions in debt, to several hundred billions.
  • When in 1999 the then Premier was charged of money-laundering state funds, and hiding money in diaper boxes!
  • The same party which caused the Stock market crash in 2000 where thousands of people lost billions of drachmas in what later on proved to be a well-organized heist, the money and culprits of which were never signaled out either.
  • The same party which was accused by the Omogeneia in New York of being responsible for the "Ktimatiki" Bank scandal where millions of dollars were plundered and lost forever in fake investments.
  • The same party that signed for defense systems which were never set into operation and ordered submarines that when delivered began tilting over and that we know today made specific members of its ranks millionaires (example Akis Tsochatzopoulos).
  • These very same people bloated state projects prior to the Olympic games and allowed the Greek elite to take over the media, and construction sectors.
  • These very same people controlled all the unions, and took care that their loyal voters were taken care of (10 percent of the population) while the rest of Greece -pr those in the private sector- were trying to survive on a buck a day (metaphorically speaking).
  • The same party that supported the Anan program for Cyprus which later proved disastrous for the divided island.
  • These very same people literally attacked Costas Karamanlis from day one through their propaganda machine by the name of MEGA channel so as to discredit him in the eyes of the Greek people, and then later helped to topple him on behalf of what we know today was foreign interests.
  • These very same people were also said to be familiar with the "Pythia" plan which was discovered by Russian secret service agents and had as its aim to totally destabilise Greece's, as well as assassinate Costas Karamanlis.
  • And finally these are the very same people who destroyed the Greek economy and then later brought the IMF and the Memorandums to our country which took it back 30 years economically!
Suddenly they are aching for the Greek people...

Give us a break!

We propose that Venizelos should take a warm bath, relax and take a few shots of whiskey. Now that his party is showing signs of weakening he needs some intense R&R to come to grip with the facts and try to correct them. If he continues to ignore reality and remain in denial about all the mistakes that his party has made over the last 30 years -20+ of which PASOK was in power- then expect to see PASOK barely touch 3 percent mark at the next national elections.

But as we have said on many occasions, these people are superficial opportunists, that is why we believe that if social unrest does indeed spark because of these measures -which by the way will be announced on Sunday- then his party might even begin tip toeing towards the exit door, leaving Samaras to take all the heat while they proudly play the part of the hero and the "I told you so" saviors.

Editor;s Note - Indeed, some people will even begin buying into it... if and when PASOK decides to leave Samaras high and dry because when you reduce people to watching Turkish drama series everyday, when you forbid them to raise the Greek flag at the Acropolis, or when you ask a youngster who Kolokotronis was and they do not know... how to answer you then do not expect them to remember what happened several years ago, let alone 20. And before you all go off babbling about "the stupid Greeks" HellasFrappe just wants to remind many of our friends in N.America and elsewhere, that if they pulled someone off the street and asked them where Kazakhstan was... most would not know either. Wake up people!
