Was November 17 Fugitive Spotted in Faliro?

According to press reports November 17 Christodoulos Xiros was on Friday spotted in Faliro, a southern Greek suburb.

Basing its information on police sources, a report on defencenet, claimed that he was spotted in a Silver Opel Zafira with license plates that begin with "PAM" in the southern Athens suburb. The report also said that the tip they received has yet to be confirmed.

It did note however, that authorities are on full alert and that there was a great mobility from the anti-terrorist and EKAM units.

No further details were given.

Christodoulos Xiros, who today is 55-years-old, was sentenced to multiple life terms at the Korydallos Prison in Athens. After the crushing of the group in 2002, Xiros was sentenced in 2003 to serve six life sentences. Because of good behavior, he was permitted to leave prison eight times over the last 18 months - always under the condition that everyday he would report to the police. During his latest leave, he failed to report in, and since then he has apparently gone underground.

On the subject of terrorism and terrorists, and in accordance with other Greek reports, anarchist Costas Sakkas, was once again arrested on Thursday by members of Greece's anti-terrorist squad. Sakkas, 30, was accused of being a member of the “Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire,” an urban guerrilla group in Greece.

It should be reiterated that Sakkas was granted conditional release last July after going on hunger strike to protest the fact that he had been held in detention for two-and-a-half years.

Reports claim that he was arrested after authorities discovered that the fingerprints matching the 30-year-old’s were found at a safe house in Chalandri. The home was apparently used by the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group.
