The report, which was featured on both defencenet and on notioanatolika.gr, (links at bottom) notes that Greek authorities, in collaboration with members of both the CIA and British MI5, are monitoring specific areas in the Messogia region where they believe there is ample evidence that illegal immigrants -who are involved in furthering the operations of Al Qaeda in our country- are based.
The report on notioanatolika for example speaks of four areas: Koropi, Keratea and Porto Rafti (where many Pakistani and Afghan nationals live). In most cases, adds the same report, their compatriots know very little about the true identities of the suspected individuals because they create the impression of complete assimilation in the framework of moving about freely.
Those who have ever visited Athens already know that the area of Messogia is of particular importance -in terms of security and safety- because the "Eleftherios Venizelos" International airport is located there. The airport is visible -even to the naked eye- throughout the entire region, which makes it an especially vulnerable target.
Of course the US intelligence report emphasizes that the airport is not really something that we should concern ourselves with at the moment, but what should alarm us is the pockets (of supporters and followers) that this dangerous organization is attempting to create in the broader region.
Tens of thousands of Pakistani and Afghan nationals live in this region. Given this fact alone, and given the right conditions, Al Quaeda can easily encourage illegal immigrants to spark up a violent riot in Athens or any other Greek city, all in the framework of creating total chaos.
Both reports said that an update was already sent via official channels (or basically from the US to the Greek Foreign Ministry) on this matter. Cross referencing this last bit of information, defencenet noted that it had contacted the Greek Foreign Ministry about the matter, but no further details were given.
Occasionally we would hear about bloody attacks between members from these communities, and until now we believed that this was because of the war of factions that these minorities brought with them when they fled from their homelands to illegally cross into Greece. Today we discovered that that these attacks are due to the spread of Wahhabism in Greece - or at least this is what the report from TCS states!
It notes that the Islamic "dogma" sows hatred, contempt and distrust of Jews, Christians and non-Muslims to both the young and old, while it also discriminates against non-Wahhabi believers. What is even more frightening, adds the same report, is that funds are being gathered at various religious centers and/or mosques that preach Wahhabism for Jihad!
In such a climate, all open controversies -especially those involving some Pakistani nationals- have once again been placed under the microscope and are currently being investigated by Greek authorities for their links to this particular Islamic radicalism.
The news only comes to confirm two previous reports we had featured here on HellasFrappe from Ioannis Michelatos some time ago. In one of these reports titled " Is Greece In Threat Of An Extremist Islamist Attack?" the author claims that although no verified Islamist terrorist attack has ever occurred in Greece, the latter years have seen an increased activity. This activity has so far been on logistical, recruitment and accommodating basis as many experts in Greece and abroad agree the current situation regarding immigration combined with the existence of the illegal immigrants has created a hub of uncontrollable, "loose", individuals who act and operate freely making the transposing of people from Asia and the Middle East through Greece easier while also looking to recruit Islamic radicals for operations beyond the Greek borders. In a second report titled "Radical Islam Passing Through Greece" we discovered that that radical Islamic action is increasing in the center of Athens, and it was even a topic of discussion in the Greek parliament. Some politicians even stated that some illegal immigrants could be radical cells and even “al Qaeda sleeping cells.” We also discovered that in 2011, the Greek media revealed information from WikiLeaks that since 2006 US diplomats in Athens had information that there was a nexus between illegal immigrant trafficking networks from Pakistan and terrorists groups in that country that profit from that illicit market. American diplomats had apparently met with their Pakistani counterparts during this time and then provided Greek authorities with several names of traffickers who were suspected of having links to terrorists.
