Did Palaiocostas Have Plastic Surgery To Alter Appearance - Is He Working With Known Terrorist?

The buzz in the Greek press claims that escaped convict Vassilis Palaiocostas had plastic surgery to change his appearance. It should be reminded that Palaiocostas has been on the run since 2009 when he escaped from the Korydallos Prison in a helicopter.

On Wednesday authorities released a set of photographs which depict a man at a service station in central Greece in February 2011, which look like the convict, but with new facial features and obviously more hair.

Authorities said that this was Palaiocostas and the photos were taken shortly before a car he was traveling in with another suspect was chased by police. More than 20 shots were fired from an AK-47 assault rifle by the two men, who injured a policeman before escaping. Police released CCTV footage of the other man that was in the vehicle that day as well as the Audi used by the fugitives. A magistrate in Livadia issued an arrest warrant for the two men on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons.

Meanwhile, an interesting report appeared in Kathimerini claiming that Palaiocostas is working with the notorious member of the urban guerrilla group Revolutionary Struggle Nikos Maziotis who was absconded in 2012.

The newspaper noted that authorities suspect that the pair has conducted a number of bank robberies with several other accomplices.

Other press reports claim that while these two criminals remain at large, police also fear an impending terrorist attack. The same reports add that one of the reasons they fear this is because the two fugitives run in the same circles and have common friends in the organized crime world.
