Charges Against 7 ERT Employees - Groundless, Says Union

The union representing employees of the former public broadcaster ERT (POSPERT) described the charges of damaging public property, that were brought against seven individuals caught near the former ERT transmitter on Mount Hymettus, as totally groudnless.

According to news reports, police arrested eight individuals, including a lawyer, that were spotted in the vicinity of the transmitter compound on the top of Mount Hymettus earlier this week.
"The arbitrary and barbaric actions of the government and forces of repression do not frighten or dismay us; on the contrary, they strengthen our struggle and steel our resolve for our Constitutional right to work, to public television, to institutions and the demand for democracy and freedom," POSPERT said in a statement.
The union then went on to accuse police officials of brutality against citizens -and especially against the journalist Eva Mavrogeni- whom they claim has suffered injuries and who were detained for 20 hours for demonstrating against the government's non-compliance with the rulings of the Council of State.
