The 20-year-old Dutchman who has been accused of violently stabbing an 11-year-old Russian boy who was staying at a hotel on the island of Crete last week has remanded in custody and ordered to undergo psychiatric examination.
The accused, Cirino Schrijver, (whose mother is Greek) faced a magistrate in Herakleio on Monday but during the 15-minute session his court-appointed lawyer apparently stated that it was not possible for his client to answer any more questions.
The lawyer noted that Schrijver is suffering from serious medical problems and had stopped taking his medication while he was employed in Crete.
It should be reminded that the accused stabbed the young boy 20 times last week after stealing his laptop and mobile phone. Schrijver had been hired at the hotel in Hersonissos where the poor victim was staying just a few days before his attack.
The 20-year-old’s mother, who says her son is autistic, and his sister are also in Crete. They have apparently submitted his medical file to authorities on the island but because it is in the Dutch language the documents have to be officially translated.
Reports said that Schrijver’s mother told authorities that the hotel he was working at was unaware that he required medical assistance.
In Athens, the 11-year-old victim is slowly recovering. Reports say that doctors have began physiotherapy work on him and he is scheduled to undergo another operation on Tuesday to repair a damaged tendon in one of his arms.
