SPECIAL REPORT - Samaras: Greece Needs Liquidity Or It Will Be Led To Social Unrest

The issue of extending the program set up by the Troika was the focus of an interview by Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras to the Washington Post. The Premier associated this with a risk of an armed uprising brought on by the desperation, as he said, of the people who have been suffering greatly from the economic crisis. "There are many problems facing society. I will become very worried if there is no light at the end of the tunnel," he said.

Samaras knows very well that undermining social structures will only lead to grave situations and that these are likely to affect the internal security of the country. More exactly, if economic conditions do not normalize or there is at least some visible prospect that they would then chaos can spark at any given moment.

That is why right after his interview he also addressed the issue of illegal immigration as well as the expected danger of thousands of refugees from Syria crossing over into Greece.

Interestingly, the new issue of "Stratigiki" magazine, which is scheduled to be released next Monday, features a ground-breaking article revealing details about the probability of transforming Greece into a "New Syria". The authors who also write for defencenet argue that the current rate of unemployment does not only concern Greek nationals, but it is also equally affecting foreigners and illegal immigrants who also live here as well. It then describes these particular groups as "armies of desperate people" which it notes can easily be manipulated by foreign interests (or agents) against Greece.

Combine this with the fact that authorities have uncovered, or are informed of, the existence of heavy weaponry in thousands of urban caches all across Greece, only raises even more concern. But what is really frightening is the hypofunction of State security forces because of economic pressure brought about by the current crisis.

All this creates an explosive mixture.

Moreover, the recent organization of a "semi-military division" with heavy weaponry by the police department did not happen by chance. The move of course is intended to crackdown on the so-called bandits with AK-47 Kalashnikovs, but this is suspected to only be partially true. The mere fact that these specialized units will be operating at a number of police departments all over the country should be taken more seriously since they will only intervene in extraordinary emergencies. In other words, they will not patrol neighborhoods, and they will not be involved in criminal investigations. They are there to evolve into follow-on-forces which are groups that are trained to face heavily armed insurgent groups.

Samaras also revealed to the American newspaper (that following his meeting with the president of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi), he emphasized that without liquidity you can not give money to small, medium or large businesses through the banking system and therefore you cannot allow the economy to breathe. "Greece needs many breaths at this point. If there is no light at the end of the tunnel, then I am very worried." (Original article in Greek on defencenet)
