Voyage of Argonauts - Subject Of New BBC Documentary Currently Being Filmed in Volos

Filming of a documentary on the mythical voyage of the Argonauts, to be shown by the BBC and other major television networks throughout the world, began being filmed in the coastal city of Volos on Friday. The documentary is being shot by an Australian film company and a copy will be given to the Volos municipality to use promote its tourism industry.

The municipality was fully prepared for the filming, or for the four-day voyage, with a replica 'Argo', the legendary ship that Jason and the Argonauts used to retrieve the Golden Fleece.

The ship embarked at 9:00 am with a crew of rowers from the 'Argonauts 2008' club and filming was carried out in the waters around the bay with the assistance of 55 rowers from the club.

The film company aims to recreate the conditions that existed during the time of the mythical Jason as closely as possible and the rowers will all be wearing costumes simulating the style of that era.

During filming, the ship will sail as far as Afissos and then spend the night at Milina. On Saturday, filming will continue on the small islands in the region, Trikeri and Agia Kyriaki, and various locations in south Pelion before returning to Volos on Monday.
