Greek Tanker Sinks Off Elefsina Carrying 1,800 Tons Of Crude Oil


A Greek tanker AA1 apparently sank in the sea region of Elefsina (west of Athens) on Monday morning and according to initial reports the 48-year-old Greek captain was found dead. A report from the state news agency said that the vessel, was carrying an 11-member crew, and was loaded with 1.8 tons of crude oil as well as 253 tons of oil.

The tanker was said to belong to the Viamar company and was carrying nearly 1,800 tons of crude oil and 235 tons of fuel oil.

Reports said that the crew is safe and well, however some of them were sent to hospital for precautionary reasons.

A rescue team is at the site of the incident.
