Reporter Seraphim Phyntanidis Arrested On Tax Evasion.



According to news reports, veteran reporter and former editor of Eleftherotypia Seraphim Phyntanidis was arrested on Tuesday for tax evasion following an extensive investigation by Greece's IRS. Officials said that the arrest concerns debts and unpaid Value Added Tax (VAT) of some 300,000 euros. Phyntanidis was brought before the prosecution to testify, while authorities were still on the look out for his wife Virginia Ventourakis, who also apparently owns significant debts to the State.

Phyntanidis headed the "Eleftherotypia" newspaper for many years, as well as for NET (or ERT2). His wife. on the other, is a businesswoman and owns several shops, while in the past she had been accused for "shady" dealings with the state, while her husband was working as a reporter.
