Regional governors from all across Greece are angry with the government’s decision to “collect” their cash reserves and transfer them to an account in the Bank of Greece, with some claiming that this is going to cause delays in payments.
While speaking on Radio Ena 102.5, the district governor of Thessaly Costas Agorastos said that the government's decision is unprecedented and endangers growth all over Greece. He stressed that many of the funds which were transferred were reserved for NSRF-funded works. Agorastos also noted that major payment delays would come as a result of this decision. He also argued that the government’s decision essentially devalues regional district authorities, while further entrenching the belief that the government is in complete control of all funding.
The subject is set to be discussed by the union of district governors at a special meeting which should be held within the next few days.
