The Hellenic Navy is finishing up with a series of tests and improvements on the Matrozos, a type 214 submarine, at the Skaramangas Shipyard.
According to the state news agency ANA-MPA the Matrozos is expected to be launched in February and is going to be the second type 214 submarine, after the Pipinos was launched in October 2014.
Meanwhile, the Pipinos successfully completed torpedo exercises in the Saronic Gulf, prior to be included in the Navy’s fleet for service. The Pipinos completed the necessary diving trials earlier in December.
The acquisition and launch of the type 214 submarines has proven to be scandalous, with nearly 15 years of delays and the Greek state having paid about 3 billion euros for four such submarines.
