ND MP Thrown To Gutter After Daring To Say That NATO Wanted Dendias At Defence Ministry

While speaking to the "Radio Balance" local radio station in Trikala (Central Greece), New Democracy MP Michalis Tamillos said that the reason Nikos Dendias was appointed as the new Minister of Defence is because NATO wanted him!
"NATO rejected other nominees," he said, you "know how these things work, I need not say anymore!"
In other words, he left it to be understood that NATO (and to a lesser degree the US) selects (and dictates) who Greece's Defence Minister should be.

(HellasFrappe is not shocked with his statement, because we suspected that this was happening anyway! But for all intent and purposes we will try to remain politically correct with our comments.)

No sooner did Tamillos speak, but immediately after the radio interview, he was thrown into the eye of the hurricane. His political immunity was suddenly lifted by his peers on account of three (shady) issues that he was involved during his term as mayor at the Municipality of Trikala, as well as some business dealings that apparently were not on the up and up while he was a civilian.

Both offences occurred many years ago, and one really has to wonder, how did this man enter the Greek political scene with a criminal record to begin with! Do our political parties perform background checks on their MPs? Or are they blinded by the money that each MP pays in order to be nominated? (We guess no.2)

(And here is where it gets comical and suspicious of course, as well as the only reason why HellasFrappe decided to publish this story to begin with):

In a plenary session in Parliament, a majority vote was held on lifting Tamillos' immunity and as you can all guess, he will now face the Greek justice system as a commoner for all the alleged wrongdoings that he was involved in. Our politicians were correct to do so, but why did they then reject a request from Greek prosecutors to waive the immunity of SYRIZA MP Stavrou Kontoni, who was also accused of malicious slander by the former mayor of Zakynthos, the case of which was also up for a vote?

(What is good for the goose is not good for the gander? Is it because the coalition government defends SYRIZA or is it because Tamillos dared to criticize NATO? tick tock, tick tock, tick tock... We here at HellasFrappe believe the answer is obvious!)

There were indeed five requests to lift Tamillos' immunity, but common sense dictates that if these offences occurred years ago, then the New Democracy party should have never nominated him to represent the area of Trikala. Right?
