According to media reports, Cook islands flagged cargo ship Piri Reis sunk southwest of Sapientza Island in Greece (south of Peloponnese) after colliding with the Antigua & Barbuda flagged containership Consouth. The same reports add that at least 10 Syrian seafarers from Piri Reis went missing. The containership Consouth had a crew of 16 seafarers whereas the sunken cargoship Piri Reis carried a crew of 17.
The dead bodies of two seafarers from the Piri Reis ship have been found, however there are still 8 missing.
The Greek Coastguard is in charge of the rescue operations. Authorities are using helicopters, airplanes and boats to search for survivors from the collision. More exactly, four coast guard boats, a C-130 airplane and a helicopter are taking part in the operation.
