Greek journalists launched a 24-hour strike on Monday in support to a nation-wide strike on Wednesday which literally plans to paralyze the whole country. The planned strike is against the new austerity measures that the government of Antonis Samaras is obligated to take as part of the Memorandums. As such a nation-wide strike will be held on Wednesday September 26, 2012 beginning with a rally at Pedion Tou Areos. The General Confederation of Greek workers (GSEE) and the Public Servants Confederation (ADEDY) has called on all opposition parties to support the strike.

The Unions reject government interference with labour laws in the private sector, the abolition of collective work agreements and the rumours about the abolition of severance pay. Moreover, the Confederation of Greek workers also notes that as long as creditors insist on the implementation of dead end policies "the unions will continue and enhance their struggles."

The journalists union held their strike on Monday in order to cover the events on the 26th.
