Greek Diaspora Students In Germany: "Let Us Learn Greek!" (VIDEO)

As a blog dedicated to the Greek Diaspora, HellasFrappe could not help but notice a letter today published by Greek students in Frankfurt who sound an alarm about their lessons in the Greek language which they claim are becoming all the more limited. Their letter calls on the Greek State to intervene so that children of the Greek Diaspora can keep their links alive with the mother country. We applaud the students for this letter... and hope that they become the pillar of inspiration to other Greeks in the Diaspora to re-assemble and get in touch with their roots once again.

The open letter by the students of Frankfurt High School is presented in the video above.
How does a teenager cope living a double identity?
In Greece we are German ... and in Germany we are Greek ...
We are Greeks!
At least this is how we feel.
We are your future.

Your voices of support echo in our ears everyday, and we hear them with "pride".
And then we begin to wonder ...
How can we be viewed as Greeks when our Greek education studies are beginning to become limited?
How can we be the future generation (of Greeks) when we are in danger of being torn away from you today because we are not being taught our (national) language?
Take our word for it, this will happen if you do not address the education policy of Greeks who live abroad immediately.
We are students of a Frankfurt High School. We are the largest number of students, from a Greek school in Germany and the only one that offers Greek studies from elementary all the way up through high school. Most of us live with the dream of returning to the homeland one day, even during this harsh time for Greece, and we are sympathetic to all the difficulties faced by Greek society presently.
But this hope, which is said to always die last, sometimes gets exhausted.

Especially since our lessons are now limited to only four hours a day.
Only ten teachers are at our disposal, and it is difficult for them to cover the basic courses.
Despite all their efforts -and overtime-, it is becoming impossible to cover the (education) program.
We are trying to be patient and show understanding because of the current circumstances in Greece, but we wonder, when will someone show understanding and willingness to help our situation as well as to finally and sincerely care about the future of hundreds of Greek children who live abroad?
