Libyan Nationals Occupy Embassy In Protest To Greek Healthcare

According to news reports a group of around 30 Libyan nationals late on Sunday occupied the premises of the Libyan Embassy in Athens, taking hostage a mission employee, in protest at the suspension of the healthcare they had been receiving from Greek private hospitals in recent months. The protesters, believed to be Libyan freedom fighters injured in their country last year before being transferred to Greece for treatment, apparently ended their protest after police negotiators won them round and secured the safe release of the employee. According to a report in Kathimerini the protesters were demanding the embassy’s intervention to cover their costs. Greek hospitals stopped treating them due to a mounting unpaid bills. (source)
