The funeral of Marika Mitsotakis was held on Tuesday morning at the Saint Dionysios Areopagite Church on Skoufa Street in Kolonaki. Her coffin will then immediately be transferred to Chania, Crete and to the Mary Magdalene Church where a brief memorial will be held on Wednesday for close family and friends. Following this, she will finally be laid to rest at the Argoulides Akrotiri cemetery in Herakleio. Marika Mitsotakis died early Sunday morning at the Eugenides hospital in Athens.
Press reports on Monday said that the leader of the New Democracy party Antonis Samaras personally called grieving widower Constantine Mitsotakis to express his condolences.
The late wife of Constantine Mitsotakis, former Prime Minister and honorary president of the New Democracy party, was born on November 29, 1930. She is the mother of former Mayor of Athens, former Foreign Minister and leader of the Democratic Alliance Party Dora Bakoyannis and New Democracy MP Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
