Samaras: Broad Support For New Government Is Necessary
New Democracy (ND) party leader Antonis Samaras said on Monday evening that support provided by as many political forces as possible to a government, was absolutely necessary. Addressing reporters after a joint meeting chaired by the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias aiming at the formation of a government, Samaras added that he asked from the president to consider a proposal by Independent Greeks party leader Panos Kammenos, which, as the ND leader said, leaves margins for providing support.
Samaras also said that the possibility of forming a government composed of political figures should be examined first and then a government of technocrats, but in emergency situations "such as today's one should also examine emergency solutions." The ND leader reiterated that the people have sent, through its May 6th vote, "not only a message but an explicit mandate. This mandate is that all together, as much as possible, try to form this new government. Each should assume his historic responsibilities." (AMNA)
