Marika Mitsotakis, the wife of former Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitotakis, died at the age of 82 early Sunday morning after suffering from a viral disease called Poliomelitis at the Evgenidion Hospital in Athens. Born on Nov. 29 1930 to a wealthy Athenian family, Marika Giannoukou married Mitsotakis, 12 years her senior, in 1953. They had four children, including Dora Bakoyannis, president of Democratic Alliance party, and New Democracy MP Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The former first lady, who was suffering from a walking disability after contracting the disease at the age of 17 while swimming, had been an activist for people with disabilities.
