Chrysogonos: “Nothing unreasonable with setting caps on pensions”

SYRIZA MEP Costas Chrysogonos was quoted as saying on Monday that there is “nothing unreasonable” with the introduction of maximum caps on pensions (something which directly goes against everything the government has maintained up till now). In an interview to the Athina 984 radio station, Chrysogonos said that a pension is not intended to make a pensioner richer, but rather a means ensure a dignified living after retirement.

The MEP noted that an introduction of pension caps could help protect those on low pensions.

When asked how much a maximum pension should be, Chrysogonos estimated that 2,500 to 3,000 may be enough and added that the caps would help avoid any further cuts in supplementary pensions, which would affect the majority of pensioners, who he noted earn about 600 to 700 euros.
