Ta Nea Report Claims 86 entries missing from “Lagarde List”

According to a report in the Ta Nea newspaper, eighty six entries appear to be missing from the controversial “Lagarde List”.

It should be noted that the investigation which is currently being carried out by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), France's Le Monde as well as a series of international newspapers and networks, is based on the 60,000 leaked files that provide details on over 100,000 HSBC clients and their bank accounts.

According to the report in Monday's edition of Ta Nea, the names behind these 86 entries, were either born in Greece or are foreigners who acquired Greek citizenship.

The report claims that there are many Greek names which are also included in the list, but without any details on nationality or place of birth, since they appear to be linked to off-shore companies and no further details seem to be available.

Asked to comment on the report, Alternate Minister of Finance Dimitris Mardas told the To Vima 99.5 FM radio station, that the government expects to obtain all the relevant information from the Bank of Greece and uncover all the capital that was deposited abroad but noted that it would be difficult to track funds that had already been exported “in a suitcase”. He said that “a bank following the rules cannot accept more than 5,000 euros in a case. There are banking products that commercial banks produce and hide black money. This procedure will end very quickly and you will see from (Finance Minister Yianis) Varoufakis’ announcements how simple the procedure for money laundering is”.
