Putin Invites Tsipras To Russia For Official Visit on May 9th

According to the Sputnik news service, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to visit Russia on May 9th. The news, which was already announced by RealFM as well as defecenent early on Thursday morning was simply confirmed by Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said a little later on during the day.

Quite interestingly, on May 9th Moscow will hold a Victory Day military parade which commemorates its win against Germany during the second world war.

(Will there be a reason for a double celebration? Highly doubtful)

Earlier on Thursday Real FM said in a report that Tsipras received a telephone call from Putin, during which the Russian President congratulated him on his election win.

     “The conversation was very warm and constructive. Our president invited Alexis Tsipras to visit Russia,” the Kremlin aide said, adding that among other things the sides discussed routes to deliver Russian gas to Europe and the situation in Ukraine.

According to defencenet, the Russian President's invitation to Moscow was accepted.

Last week a report on RT had said that although Greece has not asked Msocow for a loan, Russia would consider helping Greece if the need arises.

It should be reminded that Greece needs to negotiate with EU policymakers by February 28 in order to receive the next tranche of bailout funds. If the new government of Athens does not get the money then it will have a very difficult time servicing its debt.

(Editor's Comment - It should be reminded that aside from Turkish leader R.T. Erdogan, Vladamir Putin is one of the few leaders in the world who managed to beat the IMF, terrorism and crumble Russian oligarchs with one swift move. Perhaps his experience could help Tsipras because the economy is only one parameter from a long list of others that are plaguing Greece.)
