N.Greek Authorities Find Two Bodies Swept by Floods

Authorities in Thessaloniki found the body of a 50-year-old man who was swept away by currents in the Gallikos river on Wednesday. A second victim, who was also missing after being swept away by the current near the city of Kilkis, was also found dead on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday a state of emergency was declared in Evros due to major floods after levees on the Evros and Erythropotamos rivers broke. According to reports more than 80,000 acres were flooded.

Late on Tuesday night, Bulgarian authorities informed the Greek embassy in Sofia that the Ivailovgrad damn had also overflowed, with excess volumes of water expected to swell the Arda River.

Meanwhile, the heavy rainfall continue in most parts of the country on Thursday with torrential rains expected in the evening.
