Bomb squad neutralizes suspicious parcel outside of Greek bank

The Police’s bomb squad on Tuesday apparently neutralized a suspicious parcel that contained an implemented explosive device outside of a Eurobank branch in the area of Halandri (an Athens suburb).

According to news reports, an anonymous caller telephoned the zougla.gr news website and the Efimerida Ton Syntakton newspaper 5am on Wednesday warning that a bomb would detonate outside the bank in 30 minutes.

The news site as well as the newspaper immediately contacted authorities and the bomb squad unit was called to the scene. They cordoned off the area and after the 30 minutes warning, they apparently conducted a controlled explosion with success.

The counter-terrorism police have launched an investigation.
