Marinakis, Melissanidis & Sarris Summoned By Prosecutor

Sports prosecutor Konstantinos Simitzoglou on Monday summoned the chairman of Olympiacos F.C. Vangelis Marinakis, the owner of AEK F.C. Dimitris Melissanidis and the president of the Hellenic Football (Soccer) Federation (EPO) George Sarris in order to testify on the brutal attack against the vice president of the Central Refereeing Committee (KED) Christoforos Zografos.

According to Greek press reports, Zografos was assaulted outside his home late last Thursday and has been hospitalized with head and arm injuries ever since.

Following the attack, Marinakis reportedly spoke to the management board of the Greek Super League and is thought to have named certain individuals who were allegedly involved in the attack. He is expected to give a press conference in a few short weeks to discuss the latest developments in Greek football.

The attack was the third documented assault against a member of the central refereeing committee in the past few years and obviously it has caused major concern to Greece's soccer federation. In response, the football federation decided to cancel all upcoming professional and amateur championships, as KED has refused to appoint any referees until the situation is addressed.
