KKE Leader: “SYRIZA is the new PASOK”

The general secretary of the Greek Communist Party (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumpas on Tuesday told the SBC television network that if and when the main opposition radical left SYRIZA party comes to power, the KKE is going to be on the streets "from day one”.

He said that SYRIZA is the “new PASOK” and expressed his concern over SYRIZA’s intentions when and if it ever comes to power, noting that even in the opposition, it is compromising.

Koutsoumpas stressed that “a SYRIZA government will impose anti-popular laws and measures” and criticized the main opposition party for not organizing a struggle and giving its voters a direction.

He further added that if SYRIZA was more active in this respect “many measures would possibly not pass or be delayed” thus creating the conditions for a “greater social-popular alliance” which would challenge the monopolies and government policy.

Turning to an upcoming general assembly meeting on November 27th, Koutsoumpas argued that the working class must dispel the fear and gather together to rally against the “cruel bosses and the brutal, hostile and callous state”.
