Over 480 choirs from 74 countries participated (ing) at the 8th World Choir Games that are set to wrap up in Riga, Latvia on July 19. The Greek choir “Manolis Kalomoiris” was awarded several days ago with the Silver Diploma in the category “Mixed Choirs”.
The Greek choir began its musical journey in 1989 as a children’s chorus under the professor of Musicology in Athens University, Nikolaos Malliaras. It then worked alongside major symphonic and choir groups such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of London and the National Symphonic Orchestra of former Greek National Broadcaster (ERT).
The winning repertoire included major symphonic works such as “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff and Choral Finale “Ode to Joy” of the 9th Symphony by Beethoven, musical tales by Nick Xanthoulis, Greek and foreign songs and nursery rhymes by Manolis Kalomiris.
