Greece is cursed with many anti-Hellenic beliefs -and individuals- that aim to destroy our language, our traditions, our culture and even strike at the Greek Orthodox Church. At the same time these individuals also want to provoke our sentiment as a nation since they openly challenge Greece's continental shelf and borders, at a time when neighboring nations are openly designing grey zones all around the country. The newest provocation involves the controversial issue of Imia and believe it or not, wants Greece to give this island to Turkey!
Specifically, a new group on facebook titled "Give Imia back to Turkey" made its debut at the weekend, but the administrators of the group only rejoiced for a few hours since they were immediately detected by Greece's IEC (Greece's Electronic Surveillance Authority). Such provocations go against Greece's national foreign policy and are treasonous in Greece.
According to reports, the admin of the group is based in the area of Vrilissia, northern Athens. IEC Authorities are investigating the case. Nonetheless, the FB group is still active and this is indeed troubling.
(HellasFrappe refuses to publish the address and/or name of the user but we have provided reference links at the bottom of this article in the Greek language where you can go and research the information on your own. This is because police officials have yet to make an official announcement, and we cannot stigmatize and or speculate about who -or what- is behind this new provocation).
It should be reminded that Imia was the object of a military crisis and subsequent dispute over sovereignty between Greece and Turkey in 1996. The dispute is part of the larger Aegean dispute, which also comprises disputes over Greece's continental shelf, our territorial waters, our air space, the Flight Information Regions (FIR) and the demilitarization of the Aegean islands.
